Resisting the political extremist “bomb throwers” on Colorado’s Western Slope
Restore the Balance is a Mesa County group formed by people from across the political spectrum that is trying to address extremism in Colorado

The push for civility in a county marred by toxic disagreements began with a beer.

Tim Sarmo, former regional manager for the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, was having a brew with a friend after the Jan. 6, 2021, storming of the nation’s capital. They were bemoaning the ugly partisanship and misinformation that had led to the attack. They saw the same extremism erupting locally in hateful letters to the editor, unruly crowds in public meetings, and flag-festooned pickup trucks gunning their engines around the streets of Mesa County.

Mesa County had long been a bastion of conservative politics in Colorado. Its voting history colors it unabashedly scarlet. But going back to Tea Party fury more than a decade ago — fury kicked into overdrive by the extreme brashness of Donald Trump — noxious behavior had engulfed normal partisan differences. Vocal groups of zealots had drowned out the voices of citizens who considered themselves civic-minded, rational moderates, Sarmo said.

The 3rd Congressional District that includes Mesa County had elected pistol-packing political newcomer Lauren Boebert and cheered her mean-girl tweets and political stunts. Right-wing Republicans went on to support Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters as she was indicted for her role in compromising her own voting equipment. They overlooked her possible felony crimes, and even made her their nominee for Colorado secretary of state.
The reactionaries need to be shown for the anti-American scum they are.

Would that be the same "representative" whose husband was arrested for showing his wiener to underage girls?

Funny how the Party of Pizzagate never picked up on this.

Yep, same Boebert. She’s a real POS.

I've seen many on the left point at dollar figures and budgets as to why the anti-police movement of the recent past had no impact on crime.

But I think the biggest impact it had, which is more difficult to make a monetary argument about, was how it drove many towards retirement or away from the profession.

Likely many of the good ones as well. Those who wanted to do good, but could no longer put up with the bull**** from communities that were increasingly telling them they were THE problem.

I have to agree with that. Although I don’t think that was all about the “defund” movement. Probably more about the general social angst about cops being racist a-holes. And yes, I fully realize it’s not accurate or fair to generalize like that. Any more than it’s fair to say “Catholic priests are pedos”. But that’s what happens when there are constant news stories about cops mistreating minorities.

Same thing is gonna start happening with teachers as well. As more and more of this CRT crap gets thrown around by politicians and gets the communities mouths foaming, veteran teachers are going to hang it up. I know some states are proposing that teachers submit lesson plans for the entire year before school starts so that they can be reviewed. When you act like teachers have no expertise in their jobs and put a bunch of people who have no idea about education in charge this is what happens. Mirrors the defund the police movement. The good ones leave and then all that is left are the corrupt/inept and the inexperienced which isn't good for anyone.

That's a great idea. What's wrong with that? Most professional are held to those kinds of standards.

Yup. Particularly considering the sh*tty salaries many of them are paid.

It's already happening with teachers. But CRT has pretty much nothing to do with it.

Turrible families and inept administration more than anything. Well and obviously the pay.

It's no longer the public. They've entered into an arrangement. With that said, what industry isn't?

Spoken like someone with zero educational experience. My lesson plans change weekly if not daily depending on what feedback I get from my students and how long/short it takes them to complete tasks for class. Asking me to supply my entire year of plans isn't beneficial to anyone. It is the equivalent of busy work created to make the states look like they are working hard on education, when if they really cared they would be investing more in teacher retention/salary. Not to mention the states already have how the curriculum is mapped out and when specific topics are taught during the school year. So what is the real purpose for wanting all those lesson plans? Who is actually going to go over them? It's just more BS from Red states who think that parents have suddenly become education experts by virtue of making a baby.

I feel bad for teachers who enter the profession with just a bachelors degree. Where I live they can't even afford a studio apartment.

All cops aren’t racist, just as all Catholic priests aren’t pedos. But when we’re bombarded by the constant stories about racist cop incidents, and pedo priest incidents, it gives the whole group a bad name. Bad apple theory. Very similar to how you guys think all schools and all teachers are pushing CRT on the kids. Let me know if I need to walk you through this further, or perhaps dumb it down!
