  • Can Fox News viewers be deprogrammed? Paying them to watch CNN makes them less gullible

Participants were paid $15 an hour to watch CNN instead of Fox News: Is it a cheap solution for fake news?

A groundbreaking new study paid viewers of Fox News Channel to watch CNN for 30 days. Those viewers ultimately became more skeptical and less likely to buy into fake news. The early impacts, after just three days, showed that the viewers were already starting to change.

The findings of the study, written by David E. Brockman and Joshua L. Kalla, explained that the experiment used content analysis comparing the two networks during September of 2020.

During this period, the researchers explained that "CNN provided extensive coverage of COVID-19, which included information about the severity of the COVID-19 crisis and poor aspects of [Donald] Trump's performance handling COVID-19. Fox News covered COVID-19 much less," said the study. "The coverage of COVID-19 it did offer provided little of the information CNN did, instead giving viewers information about why the virus was not a serious threat. On the other hand Fox News extensively but highly selectively covered racial issues, and its coverage of these issues provided extensive information about [Joe] Biden and other Democrats' supposed positions on them and about outbreaks of violence at protests for racial justice in American cities. CNN provided little information about either. The networks both covered the issue of voting by mail, but again dramatically different information about it (in addition to offering different frames)."

I posted the following in 1Percent’s thread a few days back and I believe it’s appropriate for this thread as well.

Corporate mainstream media has been propagandized for decades. Left, right, center, the whole gamut. There are no reliable sources in corporate mainstream media because they’re bought and paid for by the same sources that feed the never ending greed of our elected officials.

      Big Pharma - Check
      Big Tech - Check
      Military Industrial Complex - Check
      Energy - Check
The list goes on and on.....

If you’re a daily consumer of corporate mainstream media and social media, you’re perception of reality has not been programmed based on truth, but the narrative they’re pushing.

Politics shouldn’t be considered entertainment, but that’s exactly what it’s become. Legions of politically indoctrinated souls slurping up propaganda on television, radio, and social media. I believe this is destroying our country and I’m 100% certain it led to the demise of the Orange Mane.

I guarantee the mass majority of people’s lives will improve if they throw away the corporate and social media crack pipe. Live life, love your family, spend time with friends, and be kind to other humans no matter their political affiliations. The world can be a better place.

turning off entertainment cable "news", incitement political radio and social media across the board would go a long way to bring down the temperature in the country. According to to these sources we're fighting for the very soul of America, when in actuality most Americans agree, according to polls, on more issues than not.

Deprogram Fox viewers by programming them into CNN viewers? Couldn't they think of less partisan alternatives like AP or something?

CNN isn't the same as it was during the 1980's when it was the first and only 24 hour news channel. Having multiple news choices just creates target programming for more specific audiences. It's ratings driven.

As the study shows, you were exponentially more likely to get reliable info re: COVID-19 from CNN than from Fox "News." And the differences don't stop there.

Ideally, nobody would be watching cable news. Fox is the worst, but it’s all poison.
