  • Should the Broncos try to extend Wilson Now?

His current contract only runs through the 2023 season. And for the caliber of QB play we hope to be getting from him, his cap number gives us a huge competitive advantage. But, I doubt anyone on this board would be happy with surrendering multiple 1st and 2nd round selections for only two years of Wilson.

I believe now is the time to hammer out a 4 years extension that would effectively make him a Bronco for the remainder of his career.

I think they're just waiting for the Rodgers deal to be done so they can top that.

I’ll be surprised if it isn’t done before the season starts.

They 100% should. If they think he will be expensive now, wait two years.

Unless he gets seriously injured, I can't see why Russell wouldn't be wanted here for at least 3 years.

          Get it done.

I'd like to see them do it. His salary the next two years is dirt cheap. Just need to find a way to make the cap impacts manageable so we have flexibility in future seasons.

I’d think he’d like to retire in Denver.

You take that cap savings now and build a winner. Then overpay in two years and go down the toilet. At least in that scenario you have a two year window to win!

Looks like it would have been a good idea to go ahead and extend.....

Not sure how it will play out. I figure this sort of investment would be something potential ownership would want to have a say in. Especially if it's a fully-guaranteed deal like we just saw with Deshaun Watson. Maybe I'm reading the situation entirely wrong.

The Broncos gave up some players, but essentially bet their top two picks for the next two years banking on Wilson being the difference maker that puts them over the top. That in the next two years. That's a big bet. It's a big price. It's also a tough task. It's the hardest division in football.

I don't know if a deal has to get done this year. Not even sure if it should get done this year. Was the trade made on the condition the team would rework his deal? Is that something he is seeking? I don't see the harm in giving it a year of evaluation. Definitely more than one road this venture could lead down.

Paton was asked this exact question and said right now they are head down in FA and draft but did. not trad for Wilson without that in mind. extension. that is.

it would think sometime this season

They better figure out how to get a RT that protects Wilson. That is the biggest need position on the roster. Look at the pass rushers in our division!

has there been a RT signed yet in the league?

cant think of one that would make a difference.

i think Paton has his finger on the pulse of the league and will address the RT position with somebody here in FA

knowing this site, it will be viewed as a disaster and the reason why Denver will come in 4th place.

forget the fact Raiders back end can stop crap and #24 a first round pick has no real position

That’s the way I’m thinking. Paton clearly said nothing was imminent, and just acted like neither side was in a hurry. Maybe it was an act, but maybe isn’t wasn’t. I’m with you, I think they want to get the permanent deal done after ownership comes on later this year.

In the meantime, they can certainly do a temporary thing like add a year and guarantee all his money this year. That helps everyone because the team can get more free agents.

And every year those people have been proven wrong, with the cellar predictors being right. Always bottom tier. then the next year the same clowns rip others for predicting yet another shit year…which always end up a shit year.

this year is different. There’s hope. We’re competitive now because of ONE position. ONE position that needs complete protection. If people want to be concerned and rant about RT, a position who protects the one player who decides if this team is good or shit, then ****ing let them. Who gives a shit if this site has a meltdown about a RT.

the OL is more important than our secondary. More important than the DL. More important than coaching. And just a tiny bit less important than QB. So forgive some of the people who see this OL as not up to par. Because it isn’t. And it is the biggest chance of derailing a season by getting our QB injured. RT isn’t acceptable now. God forbid a fan bitches about it.

the main bitch sessions now centers around a freaking RT. think about that for a minute. color me very happy with where Denver sits on March 19.

Extend him now unless you want to pay double next season and triple the season after that because his cost is only gonna go up.

Don’t be stubborn and put it off like John Elway did with everyone else get it done now Paton!

Meh, I've been bitching about the o-line ever since we lost the last QB we had that overcome a shitty one in PFM.

I doubt it was Paton who's been holding back an extension. I think Wilson's camp have no hurry, they wanted to wait because they knew a Watson deal was coming to be used as a parameter along with Rodgers' new contract. I also can't see Paton needing an year to make sure Wilson is still elite. When he gave all those picks to Seattle he already knew what Wilson is worth and that Wilson will be Denver's QB for some time with a big contract.

I’m not saying the Broncos’ Oline are world beaters, but a good/great quarterback can make a mediocre Oline look better than mediocre. Quarterbacks recognizing defenses goes a long way, when given the latitude to audible and adjust protection. Getting the right players and everyone on the same page will be a work in progress.

Wilson said he’s already watched every Broncos game 2-3 times from last season. He spoke to Paton about what he thinks needs to be improved. Paton said it was like talking to a scout. I have no doubt the Oline was discussed.
