To the Broncos defesne on this....they had to prep the team to SELL. Trading for Watson isn't the move you make when you are in that situation. Plus one of the Bowlen girls as I recall, had been given an award or something for efforts against domesit violence right around the same time. I can understand Denver wasn't in position to push the chips on on a move like this.

But seriously, had the team traded for Minshew, or some other clown, (as their answer), at the time, their would’ve been a revolt, the fanbase would’ve came unglued.
Blame Wilson, he agreed to the trade and signed the contract, with the expectation we wouldn’t completely and utterly suck. He’s completely screwed us now and for years to come.👍 1Comment

Keeping Lock would’ve been better than Wilson. Lmao.
would’ve had all the draft picks…drafting top 5 for your QB and no Wilson contract restricting for half a decade.
for Paton its not so much the decisions anymore. They happened. It’s how he’s going to fix it.
so far he’s ****ed that up too.Comment

We’re using hindsight though. Obviously, knowing what we know now, we should’ve done literally ANYTHING else but trade for Wilson.

the Opener VS Seattle wouldn't have been the pressure cooker it was because No Wilson trade means Wilson is in Seattle or not traded at least, to Denver.
Maybe Lock has some boneheaded turnovers as he was prone to, but also make some big plays as he also did from time to time. This D holds up and makes those turnovers hurt less. Maybe you get off to a better record with the cupcakes you had to start and the stadium fills up, with Shane up in here telling everyone he told you so about how great Lock was.
Seriously, would things really be worse than they are with Lock? NO! Even if he did suck, you'd have your draft and all kinds of cap to look forward to.

Hey. I'll admit I blessed the trade. But that was based on the marketing of it.(should have known) Because who the f watches Seattle games outside of Seattle. But after watching a decent sample size of Russ...this is some bullshit. Guy has a lead ass and can't read the field. It was more fun to watch Lock hand the ball off to the opposing team than it is to watch Russ in action.
The only thing to save us now is the ledged of what could have been Kyle "welcome to the Sloter house" Sloter.
I propose an even trade. A possible Kurt Warner career route in the making.Last edited by OmegaBronco; 11-16-2022, 09:25 PM.Comment

Once again, you’re using hindsight. Obviously, they should’ve done anything else but trade for Wilson. But, nobody could’ve guessed at the time Wilson would be so washed. He threw 9 TDs vs just 1 INT in just the final 3 games last year. Now, he probably won’t even throw 9 TDs this entire season.👍 1Comment

Lock simply isn't mature enough to be a starting QB in the NFL. Drew is basically Tom Hanks in Big. Murray seems to have the same problem. Honestly all the revisionist history and shoulda/coulda stuff is tired. Without Wilson, the team would have sold for a billion less to a chumpzilla ownership group and we'd still be watching a losing season. Either fire the coach this week or force him to fire Outten and bring in a consultant to stand up Kubiak through the end of the season. This should have been done at the bye. Ownership is going to fix this mess. We have one of the best fan bases in football and one of the most storied franchises.👍 1Comment

All I am saying is that even if that was the case, lets say Denver is 5-4 or even 4-5 right now with an erratic but splashy Lock....basically there would be some real hope for post season, and some folks would still say Lock could become more. ...plus the draft picks and cap space.
My point is ....sure, if you started out with Lock again this year, the fan base would have been unenthusiastic about it..but by this point, if they were 4-6 win team...people would be hopeful and engaged.👍 1Comment

I didn't really post this with the idea that we know now what we know about Wilson. More along the line of thought that they miss out on Rodgers, and no Wilson trade materializes....you probably are rolling in with at minnimum Lock competing for the job and probalby some other vet.

Looking back though, the team was 7-6 when Teddy got hurt, their best record since 2016. Lock came in and they, of course, didn’t win another game.
The Broncos had scored 38, 30, and 28 points in three of Teddy B’s final 5 games. A argument can be made they were building something, although still not great, they were at least playing some of their best football in years.
Yes, Teddy wasn’t the longterm answer, but with the Chubb trade they’d have 2 firsts right now coming up to replace Teddy. Using hindsight, did they really need to blow everything up they were starting to build last year?Comment

They had no patience with Lock, from the weird IR thumb thing to start his career to replacing him with Teddy B. In fairness, Lock kinda sucked, he’s a guy who threw a ton of passes in college, and pretty much is what he is.

....and did they really blow things up though? Boles was resigned, Sutton, Patrick resigned. Von was traded away, but your defense has been largely homegrown. Davonte Williams was looking like a real good addition. I don't know things were blown up so much as Hackett being just awful, and perhaps some overestimation about the talent on the line and at WR...makes it look worse than it is.
I hate to say this but I still think a real coach, and some prudent upgrades at OL and you guys are in the playoffs. Of course there are other needs....but fixing Russ and upgrading the line (easier said than done of course) and you've got something. It's not as off in the distance as it seems right now. (IMO)👍 2Comment

I hope you are right. But you're still a knob.
See ... I just don't see Wilson getting better to "fix" him than Carroll, who gave up. Then giggled with glee that he had Lock and Smith. Think about that.
But at the same time. Wilson did well when healthy for Seattle last year. If he plays the way he's good instead of the way he wants. We could be good.
Still... Ive never seen SB winning NFL QBs missing highschool level presnap reads... Until Wilson did it

Watson gets to play his first game against his old team too. This was an even riskier deal than Russ's extension. His $230 million contract is fully guaranteed. They haven't seen him play a meaningful snap in two years. The serial sexual predator still has ongoing lawsuits and who knows what else. Lots of distractions like his accusers attending the game this Sunday.Comment

Old Coyote, I've been trying to find the video where Carroll is giggling with glee because he fleeced the Broncos and gave up on Russ. Instead he spent the early part of the year trying to convince Russ to stay like he did last year and the year before that. Russ has been wanting out for several years. He said there was so much compelling reasoning why Russ should stay because of all the history and all the time spent. He built a relationship with Seattle over a long period of time, there are great benefits to that moving forward and well beyond his career and stuff. Seattle even turned down a better offer from Washington that included three 1st round picks and more. They should have taken that deal if Carroll secretly knew Russ needed fixed. It would have been an even bigger fleece of an NFC opponent. They took less and traded him out of the NFC. It was all about Russ wanting out.Comment

He had a no trade clause and refused to go to Washington.
And the smirks were in an interview asking about Lock and Smith being likely down grades from Wilson before the season started.
And who cares? If you can not see for yourself that Russ is mentally declined... I can't help. I been saying it since halftime of game 3.

don’t stop now.
His last full season he had historical numbers :

hes gonna use these last games as a foundation to settle in. Then he will be ready by 2023 season. Meanwhile Broncos can eat a bag of dicks gifted by Wilson for 4 more years.Comment

It's going to take AT MINIMUM, all the rest of this season, all of next training camp, all of next years preseason games....and 4 weeks of the regular season next year...for Watson to knock the rust off. Minimum. That's a long damn time in a world where there are a dozen talking head shows that manufacture content by doing things like changing the their minds week to week on who the best QB is and so on....and if a guy is a bust, and so on.
And they can't settle on a position...that doesn't create looks, clicks, controversy....Tua was a bust, and he wasn't then he was, now he isn't, but he still could be. It's neverending. Mahomes is MVP, no it's allen...no it's Burrow...oh it was Mahomes all along...but maybe it's Hurts since the Eagles have only lost once...no it's still Mahomes...no its Burrow. Whatever. That's whats going to happen with Watson. He's finished...oh, no he's not...he's the same guy...oh, wait..he's lost something...was out too long....oh wait, we jumped the gun..he going to get back to form...oh he's too distracted...it will be ceaseless.
That's the part that's going to make it difficult. When you miss that much time, it's going to take time to get back to form, get used to your teammates, coaches, muscle memory, getting hit again..all that takes A LOT of time when you've been away from it for 2 years. The media, and fans are going to be brutal. Watson, whatever you think of him...he's legally going to be free from prison and he'll be legal for the Browns to employ....it will be a huge test of his mental strength to carry the burden of his actions, and get back to playing football at a high level....while being scrutinized 24/7.
IT's the browns so it probably wont' end well.
That said...I 100% guarantee a QB that wins with his past, will be more popular, more well liked, more accepted and more of an ASSET to the City he's in, than Russell Wilson, who is fake and contrived but didn't shove his junk onto anyone unsolicited and makes an effort to do hospital visits and all that.
Sad but true. He wins in cleveland, no one anywhere is going to care one bit...not one bit that he's a creepy sleezeball.Comment
