  • All Inflation is Not Created Equal

Consumer prices increased 7.9% in February compared with a year earlier, according to the federal government’s latest estimate, the fastest inflation surge since the early 1980s.

But not everybody is feeling the squeeze of higher prices in the same way. While consumer sentiment has cratered, corporate profits have soared as businesses reap the rewards of their customers’ continued willingness to pay more.

The top 30 companies in the major industry categories of the consumer price index have raised prices while collectively boosting their profits by $151 billion, according to the liberal watchdog group Accountable.US, which compared the firms’ latest yearly and quarterly earnings reports with the previous year’s filings.

The companies also bought back an additional $28 billion of their own shares, a strategy to boost the stock price, which also happens to boost executive compensation.

“These companies would have consumers believe they marked up prices just to keep up with outside costs, but the tens of billions in extra profits and generous giveaways to investors last year show otherwise,” Accountable.US President Kyle Herrig said in a statement.

    This isn’t new.

I’ve been saying this whole time everything is passsed on to the consumer….democrats want to tax corporate businesses etc up the ass? OK. That just gets passed on to the consumer. Even PGE is allowed to pass on fire costs to the consumer.

this is easy to see. You guys blast anyone who posts a link from a place you don’t like. Huff post? Lmao what a rag.

    biggest reasons in Feb :

February's consumer price index was up 7.9% year over year, the hottest since January 1982 and just above a Dow Jones estimate of 7.8%. The gain was due to broad-based price jumps in areas of basic needs for consumers — food, fuel and shelter

so why food? What does it take to get food to a store? Come on. Each time it gets more expensive to make a product….deliver a product….that price is going up as to not eat any profit. Passed on to the consumer. None of you ever been to a farm. None.

high taxes. Huge energy costs. High gas prices. Overregulation. Dumbass exec orders.

      Yep.

We don’t so much have an inflation problem as a corporate greed and price gouging problem.

When 50% of American actively want to be gouged and protect that at every turn, whining about this rings pretty hollow..

          Yep.

The oligarchs, via their mouthpieces in the right-wing media, have done a masterful job of training their viewers to bark “Marxism!” whenever anyone objects to what they’re doing.

Once again, you’re ignoring the fact that the corporations in question privatize their profits while socializing their losses. 2020 was little more than a minor speed bump.

Like I said, if Nixon were around today, the Trump Cult would denounce him as a "Marxist."

Just like the oligarchs who pull their chains have taught them to do whenever anyone questions them.

Nixon issued Executive Order 11615 (pursuant to the Economic Stabilization Act of 1970), imposing a 90-day freeze on wages and prices in order to counter inflation. This was the first time the U.S. government had enacted wage and price controls since World War II.
"Setting reasonable maximum prices for essentials like food, gasoline, and energy would reduce out of pocket costs to consumers—and therefore curb excessive profiteering by corporate giants."

Nixon was more liberal than JFK. And with no conscience. Worst president since Woodrow Wilson up to his time.

Generational inflation. Feds carpet bombing new money into the economy. More inflation...

                                        "Let's fix prices!"

And then you wonder why people see 'democratic socialism' as a plussed-up rebranding of just plain ol' fashioned socialism. Failed state style.

I would've told you that 20 years ago, Labron....

                                              https://www.dispatch.com/story/opini...n/23660675007/

Richard Nixon is an even better example. Not counting Barack Obama, Nixon was arguably the most liberal president since LBJ. He came from the progressive wing of the GOP (back when there really was one). In 1965 he told reporters that the "Buckleyites" (i.e., William F. Buckley and his crowd at National Review, where I work) were a "threat more menacing" to the GOP than the John Birch Society. He told his aide John C. Whitaker, "There is only one thing as bad as a far-left liberal, and that's a damn right-wing conservative."

In office, he created the EPA, institutionalized affirmative action, loved regulation and pushed for ever more domestic spending, including a proposed massive government takeover of health care.

And yet, even today, it’s hard to find a liberal who isn’t convinced that Nixon was a rabid right-winger. Indeed, Nixon’s entire appeal to the “silent majority” was an attempt to forge a populist, big-government alternative to both FDR-LBJ liberalism and Buckleyite conservatism.

And once price controls cause massive shortages in every sector that gets price controlled, when there’s no ****ing food, gas, or energy to be found, you’ll blame capitalism and greed, when it’s your own god damn greed that caused the problem in the first place. You are the problem. You and every worthless pissant that wants free shit for existing. Your entitlement and greed is going to ruin everything.

Red America is at much higher risk of cardiovascular disease, by quite the large margin. AIDS is now for all intents and purposes a chronic illness manageable by viral meds. People who get vaccinated have less risk of hospitalization and death than those who are not. Also, Red State high rates of obesity, along with lower vaccinations rates puts them at higher risk of COVID death.
