ID:	60353 I think QD pointed out we need to do this. Start with the most recent reason which is George Paton.

    Elway hired George.

    .
This news comes not long after the Broncos went on the market. Elway, 61, is interested in being part of the team’s next ownership group.

Lest we forget. Bowlen brought in Elway to clean up McCheater’s mess. Brought us Manning & a SB 50 win
The Broncos landed Peyton Manning and that means the death of Tebowmania in Denver.

As we appreciate Paton for what he is doing, an appreciative look back is appropriate.
Among the many great achievements that Pat Bowlen has accomplished for the Broncos, bringing in John Elway is potentially his greatest move.

But, he got Manning when no one thought we could and took a big chance on his neck injury. His free agent haul and change from an offense dominated team to defense. One of the best all time. SB 50!

I think Os threw the team for a loop which ended up being the Lynch pick. Obviously, one of the worst first round busts. Lock may have been better if he was actually developed. Finding a franchise QB is not easy. Paton went the route of a vet by trading for Wilson.

Now that we have Wilson, I think it’s easier to look back and be appreciative of what Elway did for the team.

By bringing in Peyton, Elway also created a buzz for vets in the league that Denver was a great place to come and play, not to mention the organizational personality that draws players here. Look at the vets (like Talib, Sanders) who left and still love the place. Von publicly wants to come back (and that's after winning a ring with the Rams). I would argue that it was this team climate that Elway created that drew Wilson as well. You could almost call it a form of "gravitational pull." Some teams, like the Broncos, have it. Most don't.

I agree. Elway is #1 on Broncos Mount Rushmore.

Although I was not a huge fan of Elway the GM I do respect what he did and give him absolute credit on our SB wins. As stated before we wouldn't have gotten Peyton or Super Bowl 50 without him . I also appreciate the Homage Elway gave to Mr. Bowlen at the super bowl. It's too bad his Ego got in the way .

Elway the player is the face of the Broncos. I don't believe there will ever be a better player in our organization or the league. He is my #1 player of all times and I thank him for all the wins he gave us.

No one loved the last 6 years. I’m sure it was hard on Elway. He gave us Paton though & now Russell Wilson!

For those too young to have witnessed his greatness on the field, I present this! That first clip is probably my favorite play of his.

Give Elway credit for never putting the Broncos in a bad financial spot even when none of their post-PFM plans worked.

Utility players are very underrated. Sewell picked up so many key third downs.

Aside from trading Tebow and ruining the franchise with the curse of the tebowno, he’s been amazing. He paid the penance and now we are back

I guarantee Elway told Paton to be super aggressive to get Wilson. Elway just got governed by the lack of owner money and trying to manage the money.

Look at these big time numbers! More walks than strikeouts with 13 steals, a .318 BA and a .432 OBP.

John will always be the Duke of Denver.

Loved every moment of his career as a player. Loved him bringing in Manning.
                                          Loved him bring in Paton.

Glad he's not picking draft picks anymore though. (Everyone has to be bad at something)

I always wondered how his baseball career would have went in an alternative universe where he chooses baseball over football. He was going to be great at either sport. I bet he would have been clutch in big moments too.

Elway is a franchise legend. Credit where credit is due. However, the last half decade or so he was absolutely abysmal with drafting and most free agent signings. He can get criticism for that, but also be praised for the things he did right.

Elway now can go back to Couer’DLane , sip his brandy , reminisce with Gretzky about their failed business ventures and know Paton is beasting in Denver
