  • OT - The Batman

Anyone check this out yet? Went to a late showing last night and was blown away. I have superhero movie fatigue like most people who aren’t MCU fanboys, but this one really diverts from the formula.

It’s really a love letter to the history of the crime/detective genre, from 40s film noir to gritty 70s crime movies to David Fincher mysteries with some Hitchcock/DePalma flourishes too. And Gotham looks AMAZING. It captures the Batman world aesthetic better than any previous iteration.

Be forewarned it’s a legit three hours, but it’s mostly a slow burn detective movie that keeps you engaged from scene to scene. There’s some awkward line deliveries and corny one-liners but that seems unavoidable with superhero movies.

    Go check it out!

I'll wait til it's on digital but I am definitely going to watch it.
The reviews so far make it sound like it will be a fulfilling watch for comic fans. The role tends to go better when they choose less rockstar actors(Keaton, Bale, Pattinson)

Yeah, I've been sick of the overload of comic book movies for about the last decade but I want to check this out for sure.

My most anticipated movie ever was when I spent my senior year in high school counting down the days to graduation and the upcoming Batman movie with Jack Nicholson. I had batman hanging from rear-view mirror the entire time. It was to be the best summer eva! All we had in those days was Christopher Reeves Superman movies.

Did you like it more than Christopher Nolan’s movies? How was Pattinson as Batman? Seemed to me to be a strange choice.

I also had a Batman hanging from my rear view based solely on that movie. I'd yell out 'Batman turn!' and scare the shit out of my future wife.

I’ve seen some criticism that he didn’t bulk up for the role like some of his predecessors did.

I would put it on par with the Nolan movies and I thought Pattinson was excellent. It’s a very different take on the Bruce Wayne character. I thought he was better purely as Batman than Bale was.

Cool, maybe I’ll check it out. I liked him in Tenet, just have a hard time forgetting about his Twilight days. 😆

Yeah he’s become a damn good actor. He took the indie route to get his career back on track like a lot of young actors do now.

I’m sure some people won’t like that Bruce Wayne isn’t the playboy type in this movie but it is more realistic for him to be a brooding recluse in the time he’s not beating the shit out of petty criminals. It’s the most Batman and the least Bruce Wayne I think we’ve seen in these movies.

That’s cool - I actually wasn’t a fan of Bale’s Wayne, as much as I loved the Nolan movies. He was just such a douchebag, and seemed unlikely that everyone would be fawning over him with him treating everyone like that, money or not. I guess the other thing that surprised me was both the Joker movie and this one being made at all. The Nolan movies were so good and so well-received that it didn’t seem like another reboot was needed so soon. 🤷🏼‍♂️ But that’s cool - appreciate the recommendation. 👍🏻

So basically it's a chick-flickafication of Batman. No hot conquests? No man that is brave enough to overcome the darkness because he already got hard the moment he watched his parents murdered? Instead it's a a guy crying around about his feelings rather than a guy that is so tough he can challenge Superman in a fight with no superpowers of his own?

                            Hhhhh.... They pansied my guy.

Joker I understand. That's why he is a lunatic and not a hero. But Batman is supposed to be a bad ass like Conan that got hard and by the time he is a young adult he is years beyond 6th grader emotional crybaby sessions.

I'm out. I'll watch it when I'm trapped on an airplane and it's that or Twilight.

Don’t remember him crying about his feelings or anything like that in the movie.

So you are saying it's not some cry baby I can't deal with the world woe is me kind of crap? That's so far what it sounds and looks like from everything I've heard and seen without watching it. I just sat through that power of the dog show expecting cowboy vengeance... I got emo feelings and repressed homo drama instead. Man that Gillenhall chick is as powerful of an actor as she is powerful ugly.

Anyway, the only clip I saw of Batman was Andy Serkis talking to a sullen emo Derek Carr with eye make up that is running looking crying batman. Is my memory of that clip corrupted?

My wife made me watch the one where they went to Brazil. To this day that is the worst big budget movie I have ever seen. Shockingly bad.

That's what happens when the lead chick is hired on under a casting couch and gets caught doing it again the very next film. It lends to the idea that a lot of other crap must have been disfunctional in that organization.
