  • Bond movies - best one, best actor, etc...

    Moving this discussion from P&R.

I've not seen any of the Craig Bond movies. Maybe I'll check 'em out, maybe not.

Sean Connery and From Russia With Love is probably my favorite of all of them. I think Craig did a pretty damn good job in all the films he was in. Haven't seen the past few though!

Yeah, I think FRWL is the best Bond. Connery had the character down, the story was excellent, Shaw and Lenye knocked it out of the park.

This guy has some interesting takes. He's funny as hell, too.

I love the entire Dr. No through Thunderball run and Connery is Bond for me.

Beyond that, I’ve always loved Live and Let Die. It’s about the right amount of camp but also captures the grime and grittiness of the 70s well before later Moore movies devolve into 100% silliness.

When cable TV was a thing and the movie channels would have a free weekend, if a Connery Bond was on, I'd usually watch it if I could. I've probably seen all of his (except that not-real-thing he did) Bonds many times. What gets me in the early ones is the smoking. Holy crap. Might as well be a smoker with all the thick haze. Yeesh.

LALD is definitely a bit of a time capsule. I doubt that part of NYC looks anything like that now. Moore got silly (kinda like Connery in "Diamonds are Forever") but dang they needed a new one long before he quit. I give the dude props for hanging in there but c'mon.

Daniel Craig has moved to number 1 in my book
            Connery
            Pierce Brosnon
            Roger Moore
            Timothy Dalton
            GL
            Ian Flemming

The best movie though is probably Golden Eye, From Russia with Love, or Casino Royale. All great. If I had to pick one...Casino Royale.

I was a boy and saw Ursula Andress come out of the sea. It changed my life forever.

Gee, can you tell John Derek's type? Any similarities between Andress, Linda Evans, Bo Derek? 😁

Grace Jones as a Bond girl was quite a paradigm-shatterer for young me.

As far as Bond themes? I've gotta go with Sheena Easton singing "For Your Eyes Only". Rrrrowr!

I grew up with Roger Moore. Those were my favorite Bond movies. I liked the Bond themes from the Moore era too, especially For Your Eyes Only. Here's a couple more with girls on trampolines with guns.

Nobody Does It Better - from The Spy Who Loved Me

All Time High - from Octopussy

Roger Moore was my favorite. He had a refined elegance that others such as Craig lack.

A View to a Kill had its corny parts, but also some great scenes. I think this one is one of the best among Bond films -

I haven't seen that one in 30 years! Totally forgot that Christopher Walken was the bad guy there....

That movie was my first exposure to Walken, as far as I can recall.

Moore as Bond had a black Bond girl back in his first appearance, Live and Let Die.
