  • What are the odds??

    .

Admittedly I'm easily impressed by coincidences, but this one should make everybody look twice. These two were best friends starting in 1st grade, and played every sport together right through high school. They grew up in north Dallas right near SMU, and went to Highland Park High School.

L: .Rams QB Matthew Stafford, 1st overall draft pick, once the highest paid player in football, and starting his first Super Bowl today.
R: .Dodgers P Clayton Kershaw, 3x Cy Young Award, NL MVP, 2021 World Series winner, 3rd best career hits per 9 IP - 6.18 (behind Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax), 7th best career W-L % - .687, 5x ERA king,

Stafford's got some catching-up to do records-wise, but he can take a big step today. They are legitimate superstars at two of the half-dozen most glamorous positions in sports, and now they're back together in Los Angeles.... I love happy endings.

        ...Thanks man!
        . . . . ... ..( But you forgot to say "Bro!" )

Maybe I could pique your interest in that story if you knew one or more of the following III things:

I:. I went to Regis Catholic HS - would've been Westminster or Pomona HS public. In all 3 years from all 3 schools, only 2 guys even played a sport at a Division I college: Shawn Cook played safety for Bear Bryant at Alabama (never started), and Jim something was an offensive lineman at Idaho or Montana - a Big Sky school. THAT'S IT. And Westy won State basketball when I was in 9th grade, and tied for it when I was a senior.

II:. A 1/2 mile from those guys' Highland Park HS is St. Marks HS, and two best friends graduated from there a year apart in the 1960s. Both went to U-Wisconsin, but it wasn't sports they were interested in, it was music. Both these guys went on to become legit ROCK STARS. .Not anonymous members of some band, but ROCK STARS in their own names. The older one gave the younger one a lifelong nickname when he started calling him "Bosworth" in the 9th grade. Give up? Steve Miller and Boz Scaggs.

III:. Still not that interested? Okay, one last fact: BroncoBuff was born and grew up (until he was 6 and moved to Denver), about a mile down Mockingbird Blvd from SMU. Somewhere along that path he became too easily impressed by coincidences. 🙄
