I had no idea the Olympics were happening… always an honor for the athletes, in that respect hope it’s great for them….
I was shocked when I heard on the radio that they had started events. It seems like less and less importance is being placed on them. Can't blame them since the games have become politicized and is less and less about the actual athletic achievement.

W started this thread, and I thought heck wonder what ESPN says… nothing. NBC news is was a few scrolls down.
yeah, the shine has kind of come off… I always enjoyed events when they were on, but I don’t watch TV anymore so the only place I’d see them is out and about…
My friend in Prague sent me pictures of an anti-Olympic protest in the city square. They actually give a shit about the Winter Olympics there. It’s good to stand on principles.
It would be awesome to see even an ounce of that energy directed toward Israel and Saudi Arabia, and the western countries covering for their heinous crimes. Yemen’s capital city of Sanaa is currently being bombed back to the Stone Age with US weapons. The western media says nothing.

Certainly there are no good actors in this conflict, the constant is innocent civilians starving to death when they’re lucky enough to avoid being massacred.
When Xi and Putin pulled that, Biden should have pulled out all our athletes.
Yep. The Olympics have never not been political, but at this point, stick a fork in 'em.
This is as bad as Berlin '36. Xi now and Hitler at that time are very similar - ethnic cleansing, coalescing all power into their hands, militarism, belief in taking their "rightful" place, etc. etc.

Is it bad of me to be happy the US born and raised skater (father is American, mother is Chinese) who decided to skate for China fell during her routine?

I laughed.
I’m not sure it makes you “bad”, but I’m also not sure why it would make you “happy”. Laughing at a young woman’s failure? Why, because she chose to skate for the country her parents were born in?

#1, parent, not parents.
#2, she is a US citizen. Born and raised in the USA.
#3, I root for the USA, so other countries "failures" make me happy.
