  • 2022 NFL Draft Quarterback Prospects

I’ve been studying this year’s quarterback class and, honestly, they are tough to evaluate. I’m not overly enamored with any of them. I think Pickett is probably the safest pick. Willis probably has the highest ceiling. Corral, Strong, and Howell will be over-drafted because nearly every team wants a quarterback and it’s a poor quarterback year. There doesn’t appear to be a plug-and-play quarterback among any of them. I am interested in what you all think?

    I've said it before -

I don't see any QB in this draft class that is any better than Lock.

You very well could be right. Lock has all the physical skills you would want in a quarterback. My criticism of him has always been pointed toward the mental aspect.

All I know is when he had an OC for two consecutive years in college, he set the SEC record for TD's.

Maybe it's coaching? I don't honestly know, but I'd guess that has had a lot to do with it.

And PS - yes, I'm a fan of Lock and think he was screwed over by our previous coaching staff.

A lot of truth to that. Pairing the right coach with a quarterback can make a huge difference.

Same, he's got the arm but the last two seasons every time he's stepped on the field he's looked completely unprepared. I'm not going to say that isn't mostly the previous regime's fault, I just don't know if it's salvageable at this point. Sounds like if anyone can get him engaged again it's Hackett - I think Lock would really respond to football being made fun.

I’ve been very critical of Lock, but something he said after the last game caught my attention. He said while playing the last few games, he felt things were finally starting to slow down for him. I took that as he was letting the game come to him and not over analyzing. That may mean he has made some progress.

Sorry Q - didn't mean to turn your thread into a Lock thread...

No worries. What are your thoughts on this year’s draft eligible quarterbacks?

I don't really follow college football much, but based on what I've read, I'm just not sure any are a significant upgrade over what we already have.

Pretty lucky that almost all of the big names are scheduled to be at the Senior Bowl, that'll be a hell of a week for us.

Yes, I am anxious to see who does well in that game. Combine will also be interesting, if they participate?

I like this guy with our 2nd round pick, if he’s still available.

As Desmond Ridder flies up 2022 NFL Draft boards late in the process, does the scouting report match the hype for the Cincinnati QB?

I do too actually, but the people that don't like him, REALLY don't like him. He's the one I'm most looking forward to seeing in Mobile.

I don’t think we should go QB in round 1. I wouldn’t be against taking someone in round 2 though.

it’s a shame we wasted a season starting Teddy. I would have liked to see lock play more

Pickett interests me. His game has been drawing comparisons to Mac Jones and Joe Burrow because of how he processes info and is an accurate and timely thrower. He's supposed to have a high football IQ. The Senior Bowl week should tell us a lot.

Weigh ins are today right? I'm going to be mashing my refresh button until I get Pickett's hand size.

This is ridiculous. What's the point of postponing a hand measurement to do exercises and create an artificial measurement that won't be accurate when he's on the field. He is basically calling GMs and coaches idiots by thinking they would officially adopt this hand measurement he's trying to manipulate. Just measure the damn hand and prove you can throw an NFL football in wet and windy conditions.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone snagged him on Late Day 2 (end of third round), but some people are floating Top 75 if he performs well in Mobile. I don't see it, but anything can happen.

He just doesn't move the needle for me at all (long-term) because his arm talent is average, but he probably has a solid chance of developing into a quality back-up level QB. Smart and accurate. He chucks the ball a lot and had plenty of time from the guys up front to get the job done.

Kind of reminds me of a Case Keenum/Graham Harrell level prospect. I wouldn't give him a serious look until Day 3.
