                All of it is garbage. The 24 hour news cycle actually ruined journalism in my opinion.

                  Yep. Add in the addition of Murdoch's obliteration of journalistic integrity in exchange for the bucks that come with info-tainment and you pretty much have a dead end. Greed kills everything it touches, maybe even including life itself?

                          The internet made the world smaller, so news media consolidated their "journalists" in few places and with younger, cheaper bodies.

                          Social media, and the rush to get a story tweeted, on Facebook, website, etc., first, has led to a rush to be first, not right, and typically many, sometimes dozens or hundreds, of follow on stories rely exclusively on the "first" story as the facts of the follow on stories, also rushed to be Tweeted out.

                          I certainly don't want to go back to the stone ages of landlines and Telex machines (before Fax machines for you youngins), but just pointing out that the technology that made the world smaller, also provided the ingredients that led to the decline in journalism.

                              Even when I was in college (late 90's early 00's) and interned at some stations the emphasis was on getting there first. Accuracy was second. If we were able to go live and say "you heard it here first". As if that was somehow more important than accurately reporting the story. This wasn't in New York City or any other large competitive market, this was Youngstown, Ohio. Now stations just jump on the scene with zero information and start to speculate about what has happened. It is sad to watch.

                              Perfect example was those students at the National Mall waiting for their bus and one was wearing a MAGA hat and was being sung to by the Native American. Everyone jumped to the conclusion that he was a smug a-hole who was making fun of the Native American when the true story was nothing close to that. He was a teenager put in a very awkward situation and reacted as most teenagers would. Only later did we know that they were being targeted by black hebrew israelites (who are awful, I've been their target while walking in DC because I am tall and white) and the Native American stepped in to "defuse" the situation. That was scoop journalism at its worst.
