  • Let's talk about Kirk Cousins.

Everyone (pretty much) would trade for Rogers or Wilson. A trade for Watson would be beneficial if he’s cleared.

Matt Ryan has said he’s returning to ATL.

But, Vikings just got blown up. And, our GM has a connection (and attachment?).

To be clear, I’m NOT advocating for Cousins. However, it’s a great offseason discussion. I believe the aforementioned top shelf QB’s very likely won’t be available. Maybe, but lots of complications. We shall see. It’s more realistic that Cousins could be available.

    Here are his stats:

During the 2021 NFL season, Cousins ended up completing 66.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,221 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Those numbers were impressive and make him a very intriguing trade target. Of course, the Vikings may not end up looking to trade him, but if they do the Broncos should be interested.
Could the Denver Broncos pull off a big-time offseason trade for Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback Kirk Cousins?

    From the article:

One suggested trade for Cousins would send the underrated quarterback to Denver in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick and a 2022 seventh-round pick. Would the Broncos be willing to give up that much value for Cousins?

IMHO, Cousins is not that much better than Bridgewater or Lock. We would not be competitive in our division with Cousins.

Cousins is garbage. He puts up empty calories as Shannon Sharpe likes to say. There is not shit about Cousins that will fix what ails the Broncos.

While a new GM and coach in Minne might facilitate a move away from cousins, you still have to ask, if you are in their shoes, once you get rid of Cousins, who is the Minne QB?

part of the problem, for any QB moving, is who replaces them? If Cousins goes to Denver, it means they have his replacement in mind or lined up.

not saying it’s a destination for Lock, but maybe Lock gets moved in a Minne deal and they roll with Mond-Lock and some journeyman until they figure it out?

Frankly it’s more plausible than Wilson or Rodgers. Seattle and GB have seen what it looks like without those guys and it’s not good.

I wouldn’t take cousins if he was a free agent, too many coinz…

and forget giving a draft pick away let alone a first round pick

          hard pass

Paton better not turn us into Vikings west

same goes for Zimm at dc.

time for new fresh energy at the valley of doves.

Cousins is a rich man's Teddy. Stats look good, but doesn't get you tough wins

While I agree Cousins isn't the answer, he is a much better Quarterback than Bridgewater.

Lots of people saying he’s the garbage and the same as Teddy/Lock? Lmao.

what if Denver’s QB put up 33 TDs 7 ints. Over 4K. This year. Playoffs then? Yep.

Teddy and Lock couldn’t sniff 30 TDs. Cousins isn’t the greatest out there or even top tier but he’s far better than anything Denver’s had since 2014 Manning. Some weird hate for Cousins on this board for a long time. Same people who say broncos roster is full of talent rip cousins who’s been on a team with trash and bad coaching. It’s why they fired their GM and HC. Bad drafts bad FA….

id take 33 TDs 7 ints in a heartbeat. That’s multiple more wins this year, considering how many were lost by single score. The “tough losses” here are blamed on Fangio just as much as QB, but Zimmer gets a pass? That dude trash.

this fanbase needs a wake up call. Rodgers and Wilson isn’t happening. Neither is Watson. 9th pick is too late for a rookie QB since several teams taking one before them in a weak draft. The FA this year is horrible. Teddy is ranked the best FA QB. Paton has to hit the Cousins/Ryan/Jimmy shelf or it’s Teddy and Lock in 2022.

Agree. Not who I want as a medium or long term answer, and not someone I'd want to give up much to acquire. But we'd be much better with him than we have been the last few years.

Paton's first draft generated a lot of goodwill and trust from me. Offering this kind of package for Cousins would instantly exhaust every bit of that goodwill. I'm not opposed to the Idea of Cousins in general, he still represents an upgrade (though a moderate one) over our current QB situation. But Given his contract obligations, there is no way in hell a 1st or even a second round selection should be involved in trade discussions with Minnesota for his services.

As I mentioned, I don't mind the idea of Cousins in Broncos Orange. He would be an excellent three to five year solution while we try to find a better long term option. But the price tag of a 2022 First and Second round selection for Cousins is frankly insane.

I like Lock, but would also draft a QB round 1. Kenny Pickett. We should have a new coach in which should guide the process.

What people are short sighted on is that it’s unlikely we get Rogers or Wilson. If we don’t get either, then your choice is a mid tier vet, or rookie + Lock.

Yup, I'm not interested in Cousins at the expense of a first round pick. I could probably be talked into a second rounder though if there are no other good options.

Almost no chance Pickett slides to Denver, and the cost to move up would be pretty steep. He's probably not an option, unfortunately.

I agree Cousins and Teddy are not even remotely in the same conversation. If Shanny had Cousins a few years back he likely wins the SB over Chiefs.

I here a lot of too expensive, can’t happen, don’t like him, etc.

What I’m not seeing from people is proposed alternatives. If you don’t like something, what’s your solution?

OC coach candidates will be asked to answer this question. I’ll bet Paton won’t let them off with the ‘Fangio’ answer of just give me a superstar QB.

Okay, If Cousins can be had for a reasonable price, (I'm thinking no more than a 2022 second round selection) I think he is a viable option for 2022.
I don't like any of the QBs in the 2022 draft. So, I'm not opposed to trading out of the first round in 2022 with the intention of storing up enough ammo to swing a trade for one of the top QBs of the 2023 draft.

I would like to Acquire Rodgers, but deep down, I suspect he never intended to leave Green Bay and this entire off-season circus was a power play to show the front office who is really in charge. I think there is a better than 50% chance he starts the 2022 season in a Packer Uniform.

I don't really want Watson. Call my a judgmental prick if you want. But the dude comes off as a predator targeting vulnerable women that he knew the public would easily dismiss if they ever attempted to accuse him of wrong-doing. I know that several Watson defenders will quickly rush to his defense in this thread, but I don't care. Guy feels slimy and I don't want him on the Broncos.

I would also like Russel Wilson, provided his focus is still on football. But, I just think Ciara is going to want to move their house-hold to a larger market than Denver can provide. I would love to be wrong, but I just don't think the Broncos will be high enough on his list to make realistic run at acquiring his services.

Very balanced take. There are many things to consider with Cousins. Draft capital, salary cap and opportunity cost.

I think the draft may be better for QBs then many expect. We will know more as we move closer to the draft.

What will help is if we select a coach that Paton empowers and the fanbase trusts to make the right selection in regards to QB.

Yes Cousins is an upgrade but he's an average QB in terms of W-L (54-55) and playoff. Maybe Denver needs to walk before we run. Cousins would at a minimum take advantage of our young talent and distribute the ball correctly. Last 3-4 years has only been crawling in terms of QB and winning games from the QB position
