  • Broncos: Time to rebuild

    We need new ownership

Also, a new head coach, may be able to retain some position coaches

Offense, vets Timmy Pat, Sutton & Bolles are signed otherwise we have some young talent. Still quite a few holes such as interior offensive line and QB position. More in this in a minute.

Defense, vet Simmons is signed and other vets may be gone. Jones is a target to resign. Possibly one of our ILB’s. Surtain is a young stud to have in place, but otherwise rush end, d line, ILB all need help.

We have some pieces, so the cupboard isn’t empty. If we don’t get Rogers or Wilson I’d shy away from another vet QB and go via draft. Tired of the mediocre vet route. We have Lock for another year and I would trade up from late in top 10 where we may land up into top 5 picks and grab Kenny Pickett.

George Paton mortgaging picks to move up for a QB in this year's draft class would be awful.

Problem then is…more of the same. Pickett is a good prospect. Will need to trade up or he’s gone.

          Alternatives?

This is the type of QB draft year where a QB desperate team talks themselves into moving up for a Mitch Trubisky at #2 overall...or drafting Paxton Lynch!

The better question to ask, who are the two best offensive lineman in the draft, and how do get one of both?

It’s a 6 year deal Paton’s on, I’d prefer to see patience when it comes to our rebuild. Determine what we want to do,
and go finds players that can do it well.

Never truly rebuilt the team back in post 2016 cause they always kept the same dumbass FO.

Maybe, but Alex Smith went 1 and Rogers end of round 1

The punditry isn't all that great at projecting the QB class year over year. I have read and seen that this isn't supposed to be a great year at QB. I'm not sure I believe that yet. I think the draft hype machine is going to get a hold of Picket, and Strong and those 2 will be the two upper end picks.

I do not like who are going to get some run.

Howell from NC. Yes, they went to the same school, but Howell seems like another Trubisky...I don't see it.
Malik Willis from Liberty. I have ZERO confidence that guy is an NFL QB. I think the hype machine will try and talk him up and then be surprised when he isn't a day 1 pick

It's a little too early to know what is actually reasonable to expect.

The coaching staff is up in the air. I would have to think a future HC/OC would have a lot of input and influence on the QB decision. Especially when it comes to entertaining what QB prospects they might actually be interested in or if they would be willing to hitch their fate to a rookie in this year's draft class.

Nobody has an idea of what QBs (veterans) will actually be on the market. Everyone has been going crazy about Aaron Rodgers to Denver since Allbright tweeted a piece of cheese before Draft Day last year. I'm not getting my hopes up.

There are going to be half a dozen franchises looking for upgrades at the position. Several with far more draft capital to trade and some with arguably more appealing situations to those top-tier guys if available.

There is a very decent chance that it's a "more of the same" scenario. That would drive fans nuts.

Don’t forget about Matt Corral and Desmond Ridder. They are both better quarterbacks than Howell or Willis.

Yeah, and last years class was supposed to be so good and really hasn’t been (although far too early to know for sure). Hell, Davis Mills has arguably been better than every QB picked ahead of him except for probably Mac Jones.

I know. Which is why you have to keep trying new tickets to win.

And why spending years and years on retreads and washed up 'game managers' is such a disaster.

Yes, Teddy was a disaster. Someone should have specified to Fangio, you get another year but you are starting Lock. Especially when you see great improvement and you call it a 50/50 battle in training camp. You go with youth and upside.

What if George Paton actually keeps those draft picks and drafts a new tackle, perhaps another guard or center. Maybe a tougher pass catching/blocking tight end.

The goal would be wether it’s Drew Lock or Matt Corral under center for the Broncos next season, we still have to surround him with better players and better coaches!

                                              It was a joke. 🙂

It's yet to be determined if George Paton adheres to the "more arrows" theory when it comes to drafting quarterbacks. Impossible to assess after one season. Very few GMs have or do. I'm not against that theory, but I'm also not George Paton.

C’mon Req, what do you think?

I say we go all out on Rogers and Wilson. I saw a proposal of 3 1’s for Rogers. I say yep. I also would give 3 1’s for Wilson. Watson would need to clear charges, I’d want attorney’s insights, but if that’s good and maybe even a Psycologist then I may give 3 1’s. That’s on talent for Watson. Only someone closer to situation would be able to properly gauge.

After that, I’d rather roll with Lock and get Kenny Pickett. I may try and snag Minshew or Heineke if the price is low.

So, what would you do. Be a GM.

I'm pretty sure I've already stated making a move for Rodgers, Wilson or Watson (assuming legal stuff checks out) is the best thing the Broncos could do. Nobody is getting armchair GM bonus points advocating for obvious moves that any person who isn't brain dead would consider.
