  • I wonder what the asking price for Trey Lance could be.

I wasn't a big fan of all the top 5 hype for Lance coming out of college. He had very little experience against small school competition. What he does have is exceptional athletic ability and a strong arm.

Other than that tipped pass that was intercepted I thought he looked good Saturday night.

I've seen one report saying the 49rs lost leverage in a trade for him and his value should be somewhere around an early 3rd or late 2nd. If thats the case then I would be all over that.

We likely have Russ for 2 more years at minimum, so sitting Lance behind Russ as his backup with Payton developing him and making a decision on his 5th year option for 2025.

If he works out he's still only 25-26 years old in 2025 and he only cost a 3rd round pick.

    Cap number in 2023: $9,301,434

    2024: $10,851,673

That's a lot of money for an unproven QB that must be developed. And I'd be very scared to add a QB that could not develop under Kyle Shanahan.

    -

It looks like Payton chose to develop Stidham who has a $7,000,000 cap next year.

I guess it will be tough to trade Trey Lance unless the 49ers eat some of that money, but still...

The wildcard is that maybe Lance was one of the QBs George Paton was considering at #9, but the final decision goes to Sean Payton.

Why do they need another quarterback that isn’t worth a damn? Hasn’t the last 7 years proven anything?

If Russ blows this year, we should be drafting vs taking $10mil flyers on giant question marks with one year left on their deal.

Lance was hurt a few times, SF hasn't given up on him yet. They would want a lot of high picks for him.

Don't think the Broncos will consider it. Don't think they should. Obviously, I'm an NDSU fan, but was blown away when he went that high. Same with Wentz. Incredible tools for Trey, but lack of football experience. The only way he will ever get better is getting reps. He won't be getting meaningful reps here and he needs them now. If Wilson isn't good, the Broncos won't be good, and they need to be aggressive in the 2024 NFL Draft getting a player for the future.

If they are cutting Wilson next year they should consider it. Let him compete with Stidham.

Pass, he is a big time bust. I’d rather have Brock Purdy

Hell no! Dude is the 3rd best QB on his team. Was a huge reach coming out and never played against top tear talent. Had one good season against second rate talent. I would take Stidham or The Nunch over that dude right now.

                      No.
we roll with Mr Limited being limited by Payton. If he completely sucks we cut him June 2nd at 12:01am and hopefully already had drafted Drake Maye.

Niners will hold onto him for at least this season. No one is going to wow them with a trade offer. His value is at an all time low right now.

He might be available next off season. I think most of you dont understand the qb situation in denver right now.

I think the Vikings could become players in the Trey Lance market if they go ahead and move on from Cousins (I'm not convinced they will do that yet)

Would anyone even care if he wasn't a top 3 pick?

I would too right now. Purdy came in NFL ready with a lot of experience. He doesn't have the physical tools that Lance has but he definitely understands the position better because of the experience.

Remember what Josh Allen looked like his 1st year and a half in the league. It wasn't pretty but he had time to learn on the fly then Buffalo went out and got him an elite WR to aid in his development.

Lance would definitely be an upgrade to the QB room and shouldn't cost much.

I don't see us having a top 2 pick so the Caleb Williams and Drake Maye dreams likely won't happen without giving up multiple future 1st round picks. We will most likely be in the Bo Nix area which I would be perfectly fine with as well.

Now say we can get Lance for a 3rd. Hes still under contract this season and next with a 5th year option for 2025. That doesn't keep you from drafting a QB next year. Especially if Russ doesn't get right. Then you have a camp competition with Lance and the rookie.

Yup. Hurts is another good example. Was terrible at passing his first two years, was elite his third year. Can’t give up on Lance yet, even though odds of success aren’t high.

Saw this floating around. Not sure how completely accurate it all is, but I can definitely believe the #32 in WR stat for DJ. So, I dont necessarily agree with Jalen being "elite"

DJ has some playmakers around him this year so I fully expect him to have much better stats. Waller, Beasley, Parris Campbell and hopefully Sterling Shepherd will stay healthy. I think their wideout group is improved. No elite receiver but enough talent to stretch the field.

At this point Lance’s only shot is being forced into the lineup after an injury so he can get the reps he needs to ever improve.

Lance will be fine. He has to stay healthy. I wouldn't trade him if I was the Niners but some team will gamble and win with him.

If its true SF wants to trade him then that is the first real knock on his ability to improve. They have been around him for years so they should know.

It is more likely a knock on his fit with Shanny's system.

Howells played one game. Im just saying lance is getting way undervalued here. Those throws the second half were big time. Dude has more potential than howell. Next year i would be fine having him compete with whatever bums we have if wilson gets cut.
