The poll is Colorado-centric, obviously. Who is your main team? If one of the local schools isn't your thing, please disclose it in the thread. I'm going to set it so that you can only choose one.
The last time I felt this much excitement for college football, CU was running the wishbone. I've always been a Buffs fan, as it pertained to college football. Then I ended up going to BYU - a school I mostly hated growing up, considering how often they beat up on CSU and Air Force (sort of my secondary schools - especially Air Force). Over the years, my BYU fandom has grown. But still, I just can't get on board with anything that is essentially minor league. So, you win the MWC or the WAC. Great, you get to enjoy your annual appearance in the Holiday Bowl. But outside of 1984, it doesn't mean much.
When BYU went independent, it piqued my interest. It still wasn't great. You'd get P5 games in September and parts of October, and then play out the string against the Idaho States of the world while everyone else was playing their conference schedules. But at least you could start the season saying, "You know, if everything goes just right, there is at least a chance we could be in the conversation come November."
As for CU, the administration effectively neutered them, over time. I was excited about the Pac-12 when it happened. What a disaster that turned out to be.
Now, it's all fallen beautifully. BYU has something to play for all season (I think they'll definitely struggle here and there - it will take a few seasons for them to ramp up to where they can consistently win in the Big12). Deion has made CU beyond relevant - they're actually one of the most interesting stories in the sports world, let alone college football. And next season, BYU and CU will be conference mates. Just awesome! Sadly, it's very likely that the Dirty Utes will be joining them, and stinking up the whole place. You can't have everything in life.
So, let's get some college football discussions going. Go Cougs! Go Buffs! Go whoever is playing the Dirty Utes!
