based on what the Titans sent to the Cardinals for the 33rd pick....I would have moved back from 31 and 95 for 41, 72 a 2024 2nd or 3rd. something like that would be reasonable to expect. I would do that deal.Leave a comment:

If the trade was bad ass, sure. They wouldn't have liked it but they would have bee ok with it. But usually trade downs from the last pick in the 1st aren't worth the wait it took.Leave a comment:

....that's why it was kind of a curse that this was in KC. That huge crowd was there all day and night waiting for THAT. Clark Hunt wasn't calling it off.Leave a comment:

....It's entirely possible KC had Harrison as plan C. No Wright. No Mazi....plan C may very well have been Harrison. I would only go as far as to say they liked Smith better than Harrison. I shouldn't say they didn't like Harrison at all.
At any rate....KC found itself at 31 where I believe they didn't like what was there, and had an out, but couldn't take it for non football reasons. I'm disappointed.Leave a comment:

I would back this up based on the Cowboys coming out and saying that they would have traded 26 to KC and I quote "until we learned the Chiefs wanted Smith also" If KC was wanting to get ahead of Jacksonville and maybe Cincy) for Harrison, it would seem the Cowboys would have made the trade.
It's a little odd that the Cowboys felt compelled to put it out there that they turned down that trade becasue they knew KC wanted Smith. I know WHY Dallas put it out to the fans down here...because most of them didn't like the pick so they wanted to demonstrate that they took a player that was coveted by another team. There was alot of smoke about Smith and KC. Never heard any about Smith and Harrison. Based on this, I simply don't think Harrison was the target. I don't think KC liked any of the OT in that range more than Smith. I believe Smith was the target.Leave a comment:

Gary, I'm not quoting all of that but wasn't Harrison the OT they were targeting at their pick and him going ahead of them at #27 screwed up the plan overall?Leave a comment:

I think a couple things derailed what KC was hoping for this draft.
The fact this was in KC, there was an element of Ownership wanting a big moment in round 1. Trade up was fine, but I believe that Clark Hunt at the very least, discouraged (if not outright ordered) no trading out of round 1.
I could never say for sure, but I don't think round 1 rolled out quite like KC had planned. My GUESS is that KC probably hoped and thought Darnell Wright would fall into the early 20's and they'd trade up for him. I don't think any of the round 1 WR were ever really a priority...but they still had plan B...when Wright was long gone...and I am 95% sure that KC tried to move up into the 20's and wanted Mazi Smith. The problem was that the way the round fell, all the WR were all still there and teams that KC probably wanted to trade with, all were inclined to stay put and draft the WR's.
No problem, except Kincaid was still on the board (and wasn't drafted earlier by someone like the Packers) that meant that the Bills were keen to move in front of the Cowboys for him...and with Kincaid off the board....KC probably thought the Bengals and Maybe Eagles were a threat to take Mazi Smith....KC's plan B (or possibly even plan A) The problem then became the Cowboys, who I think would have taken Kincaid...now had to resort to their plan B, which was Smith. I think Dallas would have traded with KC on the condition that Smith wasn't KC's choice.
Dallas stayed put and took Smith. Cincy took Myles Murphy...who MIGHT have also been higher on KC's board than Felix Anudike-Uzomah was (I'll assume Murphy was higher based on consensus draft boards) The Eagles took Nolan Smith, who doesn't fit KC's scheme.
Now, KC sitting at 31, has calls coming in from "teams in the mid 40's" to trade up. This to me...is GOLDEN. Levis has fallen and he's wanted by multiple teams willing to trade into round 1, in a crummy overall draft year. ....but as KC is on the clock, they are putting 2 of the 3 KC lombardi trophies on the stage. Clark Hunt is waiting backstage with the other Lombardi to announce the pick in front of a big hometown crowd on prime time TV. Felix is a KC native and attended a local college on top of all this. This has been prearranged and surely discussed among Veach, Ried and Clark Hunt prior to the opening of festivities....and I would bet a very large sum that Clark probably gave some guidence about them making a pick in round 1 and that a trade out had to be completely undeniablly sweet to move out of round 1.
Given all that, I think Veach, who otherwise would have traded out....was compelled to sit on 31 and make the pick. Not great..and I think it kind of threw them off...they seemed to chase the rest of the entire draft.
My thoughts on KC's draft:
1-31 Felix Anudike-Uzomah EDGE.....if you aren't trading out, and considering the options available and roster need...this is fine. I'd rather have the same player at pick 39 or whatever, but I'm OK with this. I don't watch highlights of him and think we really got something special. If this player has a Tamba Hali type career....that will be GREAT. I think tha'ts his ceiling and he'll probably not quite reach it.
2-55 TRADE UP Rashee Rice WR....Mahomes likes him and wanted him....watching his tape....hard to get a handle on this dude. I can understand what they see and I think they see him as an X WR that can go deep and win contested catches...I had other WR I liked better that I thought could have been had later, but I'll trust they got a good player here. Not thrilled with the trade up to do it. I think KC sees this player as a mix of JuJu and a Dhop type. .....I would say that if he's any good at all, he'll be fine because of the QB and coach. Also in a small way, this isn't a great sign they think much of Sky Moore (I don't)
3-92 TRADE UP Wanya Morris OT This pick, I liked quite a bit. There were a good number of OT I liked in middle rounds that I would have been happy with, and he was one of them. Long arms. Athletic, powerful. Needs some coaching. IMPROVEMENT instantly over what we've had. Best pick KC made. Might be the best player they drafted...and will make or break this whole draft. This is the one that needs to hit.
4-119 TRADE UP Chammari Conner DB UGH! Traded up including a next year 5 to take a guy who according to consensus, would have been around a while. I'll trust they really see something here AND had some intel that others were into him as much as they are. I like the player fine. He does alot of things, and I think they see a guy that is a replacement for L'aJarious Sneed if they don't resign him. He can cover slot, outside, play safety...etc. Probably higher on him than most teams and they took him as a hedge for Sneed as best I can tell. NOT OPTIMAL. Worst part in my opinion was Carter Warren went the very next pick...i'd have doubled up on OT because that's the spot you gottat get right and depth would be great there. Deep corner draft..could have gotten another player of Conners caliber later. Anxious to see how it plays out.
5-166 BJ Thompson, EDGE ....this pick is baffling. He's 26. This has special teams considerations written all over it. He had a number of blocked kicks in college..he's tall and long as hell. Pretty fast and quite the athlete. IF they get ANYTHING out of him in the pass rush..it will be a bonus because I think they first and foremost got him to try and enhance the special teams. Franklly, KC needs to improve on special teams, because that area was pretty bad last year all the way around other than the punt team. ....for this to be worthwhile, I need to see a couple blocked kicks...I think that's why they drafted him. NOT OPTIMAL. could have had this guy later if you wanted him. Surely there were others who might have had a better chance to make an impact.
6-194 Keondre Coburn FATASS. My 2nd favorite pick....because clearly they want a Derrick Nhadi replacement to anchor the interior line. I like pass rushers in there but I very much understand this..they get pushed off the line too easily (we all saw it in the super bowl) and they haven't had an interior anchor in a long time. Nhadi has been on SKATES inside for the last 2 seasons...it's a liability and a problem they wanted to address with Mazi Smith in round 1. This guy...to me, is almost as good an option to accomplish that and you are picking him up in round 6. Fantastic. This should have been the plan the whole time if you wanted an anchor...hell, they could have taken him at 166 and I'd have been good with it. This guy will make an impact right away.....probalby will start even..play alot of run down situations.
7-250 Nic Jones CB. It's round 7. KC, perhaps more than any position, have scouts and FO people who have an eye for talent at DB in late rounds. I will trust whatever they see here, that it's good and they felt like he was worth drafting.
Overall, not a great draft on the surface....will be totally fine IF Wanya Morris is for real and Coburn is the solution to run stuffing anchor inside. If Rice is above average then it's an overall win. This draft had potential to be much more if they could have traded out. To much reaching.

Here you go.
Twas the night before we finally draft,
And we still don't get a pick until the next round has past.
I, looking at boob mojo,
And loving that kind of fat...
Had just settled down,
after the Hobbit took our last season to crap.
With scribe "knowing" things that are all in his dome. And gone fishing excited like a virgin about to reach home.
Req running his feelers together like a fly,
And Paladin counting down as hours go by...
We all waited again, hoping against math...
That Paton & Payton can bring back that Peyton level of kick ass.

I think it's less about the Texans not wanting a QB and more about they had Young as the top QB and only want him.Leave a comment:

I'd also put Adrian Martinez from K-State in this bag. The dude is a talented two way threat that would make a good developmental QB. -
