Great article and eye opening. LOVED that it's stated our 3 priorities are Edge, Center, and Defensive depth. Finally. So tired of hearing only about offense, how good our defense was and therefore can use the Shanahan method of adding players by just throwing garbage or good enough players at it.

This is true and that means as long as VJ is there defense can't win championships.

Yeah, I think the D will be solid again especially considering we should be playing with the lead more.

I base it on his time here and his time as a DC. He had one decent year as DC and it was only decent. His rush defense is better than his pass defense. I'm sure Mahomes and Herbert will love that. And what is making the defense/talent EVEN BETTER? We picked up 2 defensive players in FA, DL and CB/Returner. 🤷‍♂️ And you know we need more. Will the draft solve it when we don't even have a 1st or 2nd? Where is this chemistry coming from?

Nothing gets solved with Georgiano and Vance Joseph, expect disaster…

VJ blitzes more than I like but he did put together respectable defensive performances in AZ last couple years with a pail of bums. What I notice is his big weakness is if the offense has figured them out he has no answer and gets completely torched to the ground.

Wtf you think chemistry comes from the draft? Wow dude your so far off……

**** them picks this year! If Paton was so concerned about not having a first he’d a kept the first we traded for Sean Payton! Clearly having an elite coach is more valuable than having a 1st or 2nd this year

The broncos needed a DC that can draw up great blitz packages! Especially since we have the lockdown corner again like champ Bailey! Do you not remember the blitz packages we was able to send when we had a CB who could shut down his entire side of the field??

The chemistry question was a separate question and had nothing to do with my statement on the draft. So where is this chemistry you speak of coming from? The draft comment had to do with asking you how the defense is going to be better. Still waiting.

How’s it going to be better? Because Vance has a chip on his shoulder and he’s already a good DC! He’s an attacking DC which is something we can use I’ve already said all of this! Just read! VJ system of attacking 3-4 defense with an elite shut down corner out there is going to be amazing! When you can draw up blitz packages and play zone with an shut down corner taking that half of the field away is going to be a disaster for most offenses! You people don’t know how much a elite CB helps a defense overall

Absolutely and it eventually sucks flamingo balls like it ended in 2005. I dont like high blitz rate for a D. Worthless against any decent QB.

I don't think there was anything eye opening in that article. We all know we need more from the Edge position. The thought process of a lot of fans is that Bonitto was a wasted pick and Gregory is likely gone after this season.

I am actually shocked Martin is still on the roster but they apparently like him a good bit.

I have always said the Draft itself is basically a crapshoot, even the 1st round. But Shanahan "throwing players" at the defense is also something I've posted about, especially the 2007 Draft. After he (truly) crushed the '06 Draft (Cutler, Marshall, Shefter, Dumervil, Hixon, Kuper), he "threw" three of our total four '07 picks at the D-line:
                              .
                              1. Jarvis Moss
                              2. Tim Crowder
                              3. (Ryan Harris)
                              4. Marcus Thomas
                              .
He was interviewd on NFLN after, and said something like "they'll have no more excuses."

Shanahan drafted 3 corners with his first 3 picks in 2005 when we already had the best corner in the league.

Jarvis Moss was a panic pick. We wanted Harrell and Simmons and both got taken so he wanted to ensure he got Moss. Because he felt he could make him Jevon Kearse instead of realizing he was just a 240 lb DE that couldn't keep weight on.

Wow gunns ... look at the lovely "Memory Lane" you sent us all down when you mentioned Shanahan "throwing picks" at the defense! 🙄

Dan Reeves had bad drafts too, and as long as we're all agreeing the draft is a crapshoot (cuz we don't have a pick until Day 6), how about the crappiest-shoot draft ever?

                                        Knowshon Moreno

                                        Alphonso Smith
                                        Darcel McBath
                                        Richard Quinn
                                        David Bruton
                                        Seth Olsen
                                        Kenny McKinley
                                        Tom Brandstater
                                        Blake Schleuter

That's TEN picks, and the only contributor ever was Knowshon. Bruton was an ok special teamer, but Ayers, Smith, McBath, Quinn, Olson and Brandstader were all absolutely worthless. And speaking of worthless, I think Blake Schlueter is the only drafted player I can remember who never put on a uniform, not even in a preseason game. (Tragically, McKinley was a suicide.)

At least all this might give guys pause before they start railing on Paton's drafts again.
