  • 2023 Draft bust predictions

We are well into round 6 in the mock...so no one being draft now is in the bust range....and too early to do a sleepers because the draft and UDFA still ongoing....but here are my bust predictions.

    1. CJ Stroud. QB, Ohio St. He played great VS Georgia, but I see the same one read guy that Ohio St. always has throwing to NFL WR's behind and NFL line.

    2. Tyree Wilson. Edge, Texas Tech. I just don't see it. For being the size and measurables he is, that guy should have been killing it in college.

    3. Peter Skoronski. OT, Northwestern. I'm not guying that he can play LT with his T rex arms. I'll believe it when I see it. I wouldn't risk a top 10 pick to find out.

    4. Darnell Wright OT, Tennessee. This one is more situational than others..but he needs to be on a run heavy team IMO. I'm not sold on his pass blocking as a LT in the NFL.

    5. Adetomiwa Adebawore, DL, Northwestern. Pains me to say it becasue he's a Kansas City kid, but dude was destined for 4th or 5th round until the combine. Workout warrior.

    6. Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon St. Will join a long list of athletic TE who actually were never good at playing TE but get drafted like they are.

    7. Cody Mauch, OT, North Dakota St. Getting WAY too much hype. Played small school that RUNS most of the time. This is not an NFL caliber pass blocker.

I don't think any of the guys you listed are going to be draft "busts" just that they might not live up to the hype.

Adebawore is going to get overdrafted by some team and regret it.

Wright is an almost exclusive RT. Why I didn't take him for the Bills, needed LT.

Ryan Ramczyk was a RT only too. Sometimes you take the best player and worry about the position later.

Anthony Richardson. His college career was not something to write home about.

In fairness to Richardson, no ****ing way in hell should Emory Jones have been starting over him. Gators coaches did him a disservice there. Luckily, Napier was a little smarter than Mullen.

Says something that he could not win the job as the starter over him. Colts got so drunk on his combine hype that they couldn’t take a sober look at his college career.

No, Gator fans were pissed when Jones was announced as the starter over Richardson. This wasn't a Clifford vs Levis situation where Clifford was a better fit for the role and better for the team.
It was straight up stupidity and favortism by Mullen. Jones is on his 3rd school now. He left Florida for ASU and now he's at Cincinnati.

You know what's always mystified me? You can watch all the college tape, you can measure the hell out them at the combine, you can interview them and their family, and their coaches and do a ton of homework ... but none of that compares to watching them the first few days of training camp. Usually, the vets know right away whether they've got a live one or not.

Gator fans aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.

That's way overblown. They've been around football and know when a player is less first off the bus and more ready for action but a lot of times they only pay attention to the guys that could take their jobs or were higher draft picks. The real story is told as you get further into the training camp and habits are exposed.

True but when you have such a obvious situation...and you still play the lesser guy. Almost happened at Michigan last year. Luckily JJ McCarthy put that to bed early on.

The lesser guy was probably the better QB. Being QB isn’t about being the best athlete.

Jones nor McNamara was the better QB. Both were replaced and the offenses and teams improved for it.
McNamara is now at Iowa and will probably be a 5th or 6th round pick. McCarthy is probably a 1st round pick if he continues his improvement and the tweaks to the offense highlight the passing game more.
