  • Hope Checklist (Updated as we go along)

I posted this in another thread, but I am starting a new thread with it so I can update it as we go. I'll add tweets and quotes from here. You guys can't help yourselves

HOPE!!! That's what you guys and the Bronco fanbase need the most! And it's coming.

    1. Fire bad coach (CHECK!)
    2. Finish season with some good showings (CHECK!)
    3. Line up candidates that get the fanbase talking and thinking optimisically (CHECK!)
    4. Hire new coach (really doesn't matter who, 90 pct of you will talk yourselves into it being a great hire sooner or later) (CHECK!)
    5. FA Moves (really doesn't matter who, 90 ptct of you will will talk yourselves into it being great signings) (CHECK!)
    6. Draft! (doesn't matter you don't have high picks, the draft is the epitome of hope!)
    7. Rookie mini camp. (Where ALL rookies look GREAT runing around in shorts not even knowing any plays etc)
    8. Training camp! (this is the biggest hope orgy there is! I've been hanging out with you guys here or the OM now for 5 years and this will be my sixth. Nothing brings out the optimists in you guys quite like trianing camp reports! Aided by the local journalists daily fluffing of the procedings! )
    9. Pre Season! (doesn't matter that they do well or suck....if they do well it portends great things! If they suck, it portends great things because they only suck because it's a new coach, playbook, players and so on!)

Bears will still be fairly bad next year without a massive influx of spending on FA talent. Texans will suck ass no matter what and Raiders don't scare me.

But more importantly than anything else...we will have a highly competent HC.

Maybe Harbaugh would've been better, but he didn't want to leave Michigan. And yes, I'd love to see Fangio back as DC as well. Evero is great! But that means he's going to get a HC gig sooner than later. I'd rather have Fangio here long-term instead of maybe one more year with Evero, and then being forced to sign a new DC next year with far fewer credentials than Fangio.

After the pure excitement and hopefulness I felt last offseason after the Wilson trade, and then watching an utter disaster of a season, I'm really trying not to get too excited about Payton. But it's difficult. Hope springs eternal!

Lol, I made the cut. 😉 Awesome.

Not gonna lie, I am excited about the Sean Payton hire, and Hackett obviously had to go, but I’m still a looooong way away from having any kind of hope. This team has lots of holes, not as many picks as we’d like (obviously), and an albatross of a QB contract in Wilson.

Now if anyone can rejuvenate his career, it’s definitely Sean Payton. But whether he can and to what extent remains to be seen. One thing I’ll say is I love what I’ve seen out of the new owners so far. The kind of owners they’d be was very much a question mark (at least to me), but they’re going all-in just like Pat Bowlen would’ve. I love it. 👍🏻

But to keep it real, I’m not expecting the SB or even playoffs next season. With the levels of suck this franchise has had recently, we’re probably farther away from those goals than most fans would like to admit, even with the obvious upgrade of Payton over Hackett. And I do think some of the guys in the locker room and organization as a whole have probably gotten a little too used to a culture of losing. Will probably have to clear a bunch of that out first before we can really start talking about contending or even having real “hope”.

At this point I’m just glad there will be a reason to watch the Broncos next year, however small, lol.

I think its pretty bold to open yourself up to ridicule with an extensive list of predictions, however, I assume your conclusion is that the Broncos will still end up with crap.

I don't think any of us will know until we see the team hit the field this year, and we'll see if this year we can avoid the major injury bug. The thing that we all missed up to this point is the direction Payton is steering this team (we think). He is really trying to build a "bully ball" type of team, and that is relatively against the grain in the AFC West. I think he's examined how to successfully compete with KC, and I like it. Our QB won't outscore Mahomes, but a grinding run game can. As long as the grinding run game can score at least 1 TD per quarter, we'll actually be competitive.

Well, I'm always optimistic, and I looooove a solid run game. Here's to hoping the new o-line is healthy and functional.

The whole point of this thread is to remind people that claim they are done with the team, that they are never investing money or emotion again...and so on, that you guys always come back around and get sucked back in. Whatever the Broncos do, with each incremental step closer to the season....the enthusiasm inevitably builds back up. You guys even evtually talked yourselves into spinning Joe Flacco as your QB as a positive eventually. HOPE. you will have it by the season opener...this just documents that.

If you want to say I thought denver wouldn't spend much in FA...you are right. I am surprised they are loading up. It's not the path I was expecting. These deals are all back loaded quite a bit...using the cash over cap advantage of your ownership of course....that part isn't what I didn't expect...it's that they are 100 pct loading up to make this work with Russ. ....with a whole lot of contracts that will carry some big cap hits in a couple years. It's probably the right thing to do...if you end up blowing it all up in a year or 2....you just eat all this at once and start over...but it's a great commitment to give it all you have with Russ right now. I was inclined to think they'd keep the no.1 scoring D together and let Payton coach the roster to a respectiable offense....and if Russ couldn't be fixed, you'd blow him out without too much damage to the rest of the roster and then try and start over..... As it is they are really transforming the team.

Payton goes out and gets a few big MFers for the Oline day one.

tells Russ don’t worry about that rush. you need to key off the safeties and go to work.

Denver got some good to very good players on offense and one on defense.

Last month I had the chance to order "cornmeal porridge." Being a good Bob Marley fan, I always sang the lyrics on "No Woman, No Cry" but had never tried cornmeal porridge. It was different than I thought. Sweet with vanilla, sugar, and spices but pretty good. I thought it was a side dish, but its really more of a dessert. Thanks Bob Marley!
