  • Now that the dust is settling, what did we learn about our new owners?

This was a pretty fascinating HC search. I think we are learning a lot about our new owners.

First, I think they got the guy that will make the biggest immediate impact to our offense. I really have no doubt that of all the candidates, Payton can and will have the greatest impact on scoring offense.

Second - there are a lot of posters here that totally played the bitch card with this process. If you were such a big doubter and nay sayer, calling our new owners incompetent, and saying things like "trash organization," have you reconsidered? I'm always fascinated by the business of sports, and I feel this was a great sequence of events that shows us our beloved team is in "good hands." We have missed a strong ownership presence for way too long, and it's nice to know that PWG will throw their money around to find success.

    Thoughts?

Had two big dog targets: Harbaugh and Payton. Had an infatuation with one other candidate after a strong interview: Ryans. Competed for all three, and got one of them. Did what they set out to do.

So Dom is this considered a call out thread? (I kid)

              ill bite.

First off, 7 years of trash equals trash until the streak is broken….so the label is justified until actual on field returns come in above 5 ****ing hundred.

Secondly, did they get the coach I wanted? No because I wanted Harbaugh, less to pay for. But that makes zero difference because they still got a HOF HC to try and turn this around. Out of the bunch(sans Harbaugh) they picked the right HC.

Thirdly, until Paton is gone we can still claim some negativity as legit. The roster is full of JAGs and that’s on Paton. Here’s hoping Payton will have control of the roster.

am I happy with the pick? Hell yes because it’s not Quinn Shaw Ryans Evero Morris etc etc etc.

              rock bottom is behind us.

Yeah, and Harbaugh was their top choice it appears. They tried.

No doubt. And they still got a HOFer. I know there’s alot of Ryans fans but I’m hoping Payton was their 1A choice.

I think the only reason he may not have been was because of the compensation.

Exactly.. Homers blaming fans. 7 years of shitty football(is it a professional team?).

We started like 11 QB's since manning retired and most of them are horrible.

This is step in right direction.

And they called out anyone who criticized those sub 500 seasons through the years..that’s all in the past now because weve never had the right HC since Kubiak. This hire was worth the draft picks

I think the result of the coaching search speaks for itself.

They said they were going to get the best guy for the job, and I believe they did that.

I liked a lot of the candidates but I had picked DeMeco as the guy I liked because he impressed ownership and I know that ownership wanted Harbaugh or Payton so the fact that they liked him a lot said a lot about him.

But Payton is as close to a sure thing at HC that you could probably find so I'm obviously happy with the result.

The search looked like a mess on paper, probably because of having to trade picks and the leverage that had to be kept in mind. They couldn't really tell their candidate that they liked him because there was a trade negotiation in the background.

If they didn't have to trade for Payton there would have been no reason to play the "Broncos don't want Payton" game they were forced to play in the media and the search would have looked more "normal" in that sense.

I also like how they didn't panic and actually liked multiple candidates. I think that shows that they understand there are multiple guys that could have done the job they wanted.

In the end, I feel like the owners wanted the best guy and they paid the price for the best guy. What more could we want as fans of a team?

Money can't buy everything.. if you are referring to Harbaugh, he liked to continue to coach in college.

We could have never paid a coach like this before they took over. The whole organization seems to have a new feel of competence to it.

I agree; no way this happens if the trust still owns the team.

I don’t blame WPG for taking the safe route. I have my opinions of Payton that aren’t popular here but that is okay. I kind of think this team is overdue for something positive to happen. I would love to be wrong about Payton.

I thought Harbaugh was the best option and Payton was the 2nd best. I was starting to get sold on Ryans as I learned more about him so you can say I saw him as 3rd, or maybe 2B. Out of my top three only Payton was available to them and they got him. So I can't really argue with that.

They were the 3rd of five teams to fill their coaching jobs. As of right now, the other 2 are still looking. As far as I’m concerned, there were only 2 candidates in the entire cycle that you could grade as top shelf grade A, and the Broncos interviewed both, and got 1 of them. The other returned to his day job that many said he would probably do anyway.

While I wish Ryans the best, and think he will make a good coach, he was a distant 3rd for what this team needs right now, imo. I know some will disagree with me, but that’s ok. We need a culture change in the team, and someone with a proven track record to maximize the talents of the QB and entire team. And we got that guy.

WPG probably made mistakes in their “process”, but the bottom line is they got their guy. At the end of season PC, Penner said he was going to be aggressive in the search, be thorough, and land a winner. He did that. I applaud the entire search team, they did their job, and delivered on thier promises to the fans.

As far as not just throwing more money at Harbaugh, I don’t believe that’s the right way to do it. I’m not even sure it would’ve mattered. Remember this, owners like Jerry Jones, Daniel Snyder, and Khan throw a ton of money at their problems, and yet two of them don’t even have a SB appearance to show for it. I don’t believe the cowboys will ever win a SB again while Jerrah is running things.

The single most embarrassing coaching hire blunder of the last 20 yrs was not Hackett, it was Urban Meyer. All Khan had to do was throw a ton of money at him, and he gladly took it. Now Harbaugh is no Meyer, far from it, but do we really want the guy that only goes to the highest bidder? I don’t.

We learned that no matter who runs it, coaching searches are messy. I will say this though, they were dedicated to their process and followed it through to the end.

Got a successful experienced head coach. Remember the Saints got ripped off a couple of times in the playoffs, Payton might have had a second trophy if but for this bad luck. There is essentially no way the incompetence at head coach we have seen is going to continue now, we can rest assured that the team is going to be a much better team now. Every FA signing and draft pick matters now. Free agency and the draft are going to be much more interesting now that the coach has been fixed by the owners.

It’s like having Dan Snyder and Al Davis as co owners and having Matt millan as GM. Total failure on every level. Winless season bad.

                                        We got baller ownership again.

Dropping 400K just to have a pretty field for one game was a power move, a move that was more about flexing their muscles saying, we got the money, we got the team, and we're doing whatever we want, and whatever it takes to set a new standard.

And we learned that they have everyone's attention.

While every dolt with a keyboard and an opinion was telling the world no one wants to coach in Denver, or Denver was 5th out the 5 openings, etc. etc., we were in deep on Harbaugh, who if he was going to come back to the NFL, it was only going to be the Broncos, before ultimately deciding to stay in Michigan.

They were in deep with Ryans, who was always going to go to Houston, but gave serious thought to coming here, and never considered anywhere else.

And of course landing Payton, who everyone said is waiting for LA to open, or go to Arizona because they had Murray, or go to Carolina because they had better draft capital.

And there's the footnote of Quinn going back to Dallas being interpreted as a slap to Denver because not even he wants to coach here.

Only one franchise was a major player in getting one of the top 3 candidates this cycle.

The franchise we were told no one wants anything to do with.

People have taken notice to WPG.

I agree with going Payton over Harbaugh. But, Payton has also been riddled with controversy over his career. He was in on the Dolphins scheme to bring Tom Brady in as an owner and player and He as well was going to do the same. The NFL did investigate this and supposedly found them both to be communicating with intentions of making it happen.

Some detractors will claim he quit coaching football to keep his Florida home in the divorce. This is a personal matter and one that has absolutely nothing to do with football but don't be suprised when haters claim he's a dead beat ex.

He also is notably and will always be tied to Bountygate. Ultimately, it was DC-Gregg Williams that took a majority of the blame as the scheme's supervisor, but Payton was held accountable for both covering up the program's existence (determined through a league investigation) and failing to shut it down WHEN ordered to do so by TEAM OWNER Tom Benson.

check out this story about their relationship now -

He's not backing down from shit that is for sure...Payton will go as far as to expose/fight with opposing players and referees a lot and if you make mistakes, he's done with you. So, I see him a lot like M Shanahan. Expect players to be dropped and added without the media having answers as to why and there will be drama with the roster as well as with opposing teams (In 2018, Payton was actually was sought out by Marcus Peters Rams CB postgame bc Peters wanted to fight Payton). He used Thomas WR to expose Marcus Peters and called it 'fun part of the game' afterwards. Peter's was pissed and sought him out after shutting down Thomas WR in the rematch.

In short, I can't wait to see how Walmart deals with this alpha mentality. Going to be a fun ride!
