  • Former Colorado Rockie Russell Wilson to the Broncos speculation - Go!

Speculation all over the place today (December 8, 2021) that Russell Wilson would like to be a Denver Bronco. This has to have it's own thread.

I wonder what changed if RW3 is indeed interested in Denver? His number should certainly be available.

He watched the Broncos dominate Kelce and Hill and Williams looking like the new beast RB of the generation. And the broncos lose over QB.

The rest of the team is SB contender worthy with Wilson at QB. He is no idiot. He wants to win and have input. He sees a franchise where a FHOF QB level guy could tell what he wants and get it... Unlike what he got in Seattle.

Get him. If they give a stink, get Rodgers.
    Go to playoffs again.

I’m in favor of it. I think he would do well with the young players we already have on offense.

This is a much better thread than the other weird Raider one, lol

          3 reasons for me.

he knows the coaching staff is gone.
he watched the 2 WRs get long term extensions. And he knows Broncos have 48M in cap to absorb his contract.

I'd be FAR more excited to get Wilson as opposed to Watson or Rodgers.

There are a bunch of posts in the “QB possibilities for 2022” on this subject for anyone who may have missed them.

I’d actually prefer Watson if his legal issues were over, and I only prefer him over Rodgers b/c of age. But I’d be thrilled to get Wilson regardless.

I get that, and I'm not one that wants angels only on the team, but good grief. 22 accusations is a bit hard to look past, even if he settles.

Yes, no baggage (Watson) and much younger, better team player then Rogers.

His legal issues are never truly going away. Let’s say it all gets settled. Can we say it’s not going to resurface? Nope.

Does landing a vet QB like Wilson plus ownership limbo or delay save Vic’s job? Possibly.

I sure hope we fire Shurmur and start new on special teams as well.

I would imagine we don’t get Wilson without him having a say on either HC or OC. Or both.

I think it’s safe to suggest that he’s probably learned his lesson and will satisfy his needs in a less problematic way. Not something I’d spend much time worrying about.

Pete Carroll is going to reset with 39M of dead money cap hits over next 2 years at his age? He’s going to start all over developing a raw QB?

IMO Wilson’s future is directly connected to Carrolls. If Carroll leaves Seattle Wilson IMO stays.

I don’t believe one word about Wilson’s decline. It’s not a decline. It’s an injured finger. Dude was himself until that injury.

If they give RW3 input on the new OC and scheme I could see him being very interested in the Broncos. Fly over county is somewhat of a problem, I could see his wife wanting to be in the spotlight in a larger market. I bet that is part of the problem in Seattle, they are so far from everything.

He could pick someone better then Shurmur.

saints could put up 2 1st round picks and Lattimore to make caps work.

Broncos would need a massive haul to get him. 3 1st round picks and more.

Maybe. But, at that price I wouldn’t do it.

Look at the Saints cap situation and tell me how trading Lattimore makes the "cap" work for New Orleans.

It's almost more dead money to trade Lattimore than they get in cap savings and taking on Wilson's contract ($25M to Saints in 2022) puts them even more in the red if they are traded.

Acquiring Wilson is ~ $10M more on the cap even with savings from cutting Lattimore. So instead of being ~ $60M over, they'd be ~ $70M over (with Wilson's contract) and having to pay Lattimore ~ $13M in dead money to not play for them.

Mickey Loomis would have to pull out some sort of miracle to make the numbers work. And judging by the contracts above (in link) and how they are structured it doesn't even seem realistic.
