  • TMZ Derek Wolfe kills massive mountain lion

Ex-NFL defensive lineman Derek Wolfe hunted and killed a massive mountain lion that was accused of terrorizing a city in Colorado this week.

Dont know how many of you have seen this but I just it was worth a mention here.

Derek stated that he tracked this massive cougar over two mountains before landing a kill shot with his bow and then even fell 100 feet while carrying the massive beast back into civilization.

Derek Wolfe came into the NFL ~ 6'5 and 295 pounds in the NFL. Look at how big that mountain lion is. Enormous.

He said it was 8'6" when standing on it's hind paws and holding it up. And 195lbs. They look bigger too in winter fur.

Giant cat. I’m a fan of his and hunting but I seriously doubt he tracked it down on his own, more likely (~100% certain) a pack of dogs treed it and he walked up to the tree and killed it. There’s not really a neighborhood in the town of grant, it’s like 6 houses, a nice international harvester collection, and a beef jerky trailer.

I've lived in fairly close vicinity to mountain lions my whole life. I've never seen anything nearly as big as that. That's crazy.

Also, I love most animals more than I love most people. And I acknowledge and respect the fact that we encroached on them, and not the opposite. That said, if one of them ate one of my dogs, I'd be like Brian Mills in Taken. "I will look for you. And I will find you. And I will kill you."

It moved in under the old woman's porch after eating her dogs. That's how Wolfe hunted it down. By tracking it through the snow.

And I've seen em that big. Watched one **** up a grizzly in glacier NP one time. Grizzly was after the big Tom's fresh killed mule deer and figured he would bully his way to a meal. But the lion just beat the **** out of the bear who moved way too slowly to get the cat even once. It was like watching a more athletic Bruce Lee beat up a fat Garret Bolles. In the end the Mountain Lion was chasing the big male Grizzly and the bear had a super bloody face and blood just dripping off the top of it's head and side of its neck. The cat had zero injuries. Hell that lion probably could have ate bear for dinner but it just stopped chasing and went back to eat it's deer.

That's the reason settlers that knew of eastern cats and called em pumas... Called these mountain versions "Mountain Lions". They used to be even bigger ones.

That beef jerky trailer used to be a Yellow Van Lol but if you go further up county road 62 toward Guanella pass, there’s quite a bit of houses up that way. I believe it’s still part of grant. It’s infested with moose up there.

But in the mountains and up north they grow thick winter fur that lakes em look bigger and they also have moose to eat and grizzlies to fight so the bigger ones have an advantage passing on genes. In the Ozarks they only have black bears and small deer so small sneaky ones pass on DNA instead of being eaten by bears or kicked by a moose.

Well, the reintroduce wolves into Colorado to help control other wildlife population therefore it’s only natural that they get wolf to go in and kill the big cat. No and all seriousness I felt the same way I was like man that is a beast but too bad It was making too much of a fuss, sooner or later, it may have attacked a human.

He definitely used dogs. You can loll them spot and stalk but would be almost impossible with a bow.

They need to kill a lot more of them. Predators need to be managed.

Mankind needs to be managed. Over population of humans has taken away way too much of the wild land which animals live in hence more and more encounters.

Hunting and fishing guides are probably better at taking pictures and using perspective to make their clients look like they catch or kill a big fish or animal than they are at anything. I’d guess it’s pushing 190-200 lbs which is big but not as big as it seems, pretty normal for an adult male for the area.

He should go on Joe Rogan show, those two are religious bow hunters. We need men doing more of these feats and bragging about it. Get out and conquer nature - you were designed to hunt and kill, now put down your spoon and bring dinner home for your family with a bow and arrow. Your kids will thank you later.

Beautiful cat but attacking people's pets and lurking around homes is a big no no. With all the snow lately, poor thing was probably just hungry. I wonder how old it was.

Very true except the real work was the guy with the trained dogs who treed the cat and waited 2-3 hours for his client to show up and put an arrow in the cat at very short range. In this case it was Wolfe's buddy.

They are out and about but I’d say they’re traveling through the sewer system. Also Heard a report of strange growls coming from a storm drain but it could’ve been raccoons.

"Colorado Parks and Wildlife said 9% of the 360 mountain lions legally killed in the state since Nov. 28, 2022, have been taken with a bow. Rifles are the usual manner of take. Both manners are usually done with the help of hounds to tree the lion.

The wildlife agency said the male mountain lion was estimated to weigh 170 pounds and measure 7 feet, 6 inches long without the tail, which can grow to 3 feet long. The agency said male adult mountain lions on average weigh 150 pounds and can grow to more than 8 feet in length.

The wildlife agency confirmed Wolfe was properly licensed to kill the lion and followed the mandatory reporting process.

Prospective hunters must apply for a lion license and pass a certification course that is an extra requirement for lions before purchasing a license..."

I live in bear, lion and coyote territory. Get you a couple of mid-sized or bigger dogs. And you have nothing to worry about. Slap on some studded collars for an extra sense of protection for your pups. Every predator out there will avoid a pack of dogs. They'll smell multiple dogs are present and will avoid your yard.

Dogs are amazing. The relationship that man has with dogs goes back 1000's of years. I'm not sure when we started using them to help us hunt, but I bet it was a long time ago.

Would have been more impressive had Wolfe killed it with his own bare hands.
