  • Broncos will renovate empower field

….with a LOAN for 100 million from the NFL G-4 fund. WTF?

I think I may have been wrong about your new owners.

if they are going to run it like a business, then good luck!

im going to lose my Sean Payton bet. They are going to keep Paton and consider firing Hackett. If they do fire him, his replacement will be cheap and ineffective.

    Denver Browncos.

I just spent 0.4 milliseconds reading about what a G4 loan is and it appears to be an interest free loan from the league that you pay back with seat sales revenue. Why wouldn't you use it? Time value of money all that.

why use your own money when you can use someone else’s money for free.

        Duh

actually just found out the Penner’s are borrowing the money from Russ

I get the zero interest, someone elses money part.

it's 100 million. Rob Walton has 77 Billion. He's got 100 million stuck in his couch seats.

They said they'd be building a new stadium.

This looks like they aren't wanting to spend.....even 100 mil for a renovation, is a cheap renovation.

For comparison, KC did a large renovation to Arrowhead for 375 million. ..they are doing a 50 million dollar renovation next year, just to host 2 world cup games.

Does 100 million cover the seats that got burnt up?

We should put skinny person seats in the visitor section so KC fans have to buy two tickets and lift the arm rest to sit down.

I can’t decide who I dislike the most, the owner, gm, coach, or qb.. all total embarrassments to the team.

That's right. I gotta sit here until 6 AM Central staring at this computer screen and talking here and there to some end users of the system. The only friends I got between now and then are you guys!

If the owners are looking to eventually build a new stadium then why not use a G-4 loan on renovations right now.

Most of the time your analysis is correct. I hope this time it's wrong.

If the owners are cheap, then there is nothing that can save this franchise.

Till now, they don't even give any statements which is very concerning. All i hear is Hackett speaking in front of the media.

                            Paton also disappeared this season.

I am WAY outside looking in. This sort of thing is something Denver locals should know alot more about than I do. I'm just seeing a report and the optics are bad. I've seen some folks who are from Denver, replying that they still have plans to build a stadium etc.

It seems odd that after they'd talk about building a stadium...now that's been delayed I guess? And again, I get it, yo uare getting an interest free loan..but you are Rob 77Billion dollar Walton...I guess there is some tax trick you can do with a loan as opposed ot usuing your own money.

AT BEST it just looks kind of ticky tack for owners of the stature financially you have there.

the stadium talk is relatively new. I think it started around the time the team went up for sale. IMO, it's way to soon to worry about that kind of nonsense. The broncos still have 10 years left on their current lease.

wait, whatever happened to the plan for the shops/restaurants development in the south end parking lot?

As an outsider looking in, I'm wondering when Kansas City will build a new stadium. It's older than every other NFL stadium except for the Bears and Packers. I've heard rumors they may move from Missouri to Kansas someday.

All of what you say here is true. Also, Arrowhead Stadium, initially was a great design and after some rehabs over the years, has remained a money generating machine. I would suppose thats why they are still using it and haven't made that much noise about moving over the years.

The new owners of the Royals just recently announced their intention to move downtown or bust more or less. That's separate, but important as it pertains to the Chiefs. Allow me to address the Royals first real quick. I think that downtown baseball in KC, doens't help baseball...and while it would enhance downtown....downtown KC is doing pretty well without baseball down there. It would help, but it is going to be a TOUGH sell with taxpayers to get them to believe they need to pay for a new downtown stadium when the current stadium for baseball, also built alongside arrowhead, well designed and locally as popular as it's ever been...needs to be replaced. I don't see voters approving it. The product on the field hasn't been good since 15, and the stadium is easy to get to, easy to park at, and holds plenty of fans, and looks great.

The Chiefs are going to pay close attention to how this plays out. They have indicated they want a new venue when the lease runs out...thats a ways out, but nows the time to start hinting at it.

Unlike the baseball team, the Chiefs are Missouri's only NFL team and the folks at the capital don't want it to leave. St. Louis has the Cardinals so if the Royals leave or threaten to...I wouldn't expect many at the state level to care much. They'll put up the money to keep the Chiefs on the Missouri side of the border. Kansas has a couple of good locations where a new stadium with giant parking lots and ease of access can all be had and I am sure they'll make it painful for Missouri to keep them, but I do not think that Missouri is willing to concede the Chiefs to Kansas.

Ultimately, what I think will happen, in 10 years maybe less, is that Kansas City voters reject a Royals downtown stadium, call the owners bluff, and then the owner looks to sell to a group willing to keep the team in KC, or ultimatley move them to a more vibrant baseball market. Carolina/Vegas. KC is a pretty good baseball town, but I could see a scenario where KC is content with NFL football, MLS Soccer...and then tries to woo the NBA or NHL in the absence of MLB. They already have a NBA/NHL ready venue downtown as it is.

The Chiefs end up staying right where they are...they tear down Kaufman stadium and build a new football stadium in it's place.

What if the $100m loan is just PART of the renovation? What if the renovation is actually $500m and they are taking advantage of the $100m interest free portion? Does anyone know that the planned renovations are actually $100m?

Most notable will be the scoreboard it will double in size. Some work will be done in the suite levels too.

They are going to renovate the scoreboard for a team that can't even score. That's enough generosity. Let them at least use the G-4 fund, I don't see any problem.

New ownership needs to step up and show their billions worth by taking out the trash. Paton goes first.

It was part of his sales pitch to build a new stadium, when he was bidding for the team. Apparently he isn’t going to build a new stadium. Why waste $100M on renovations when you are building a new stadium.

Sean Payton wants the Baltimore or Chargers job. He’s not interested in Denver and Denver’s not going to fork over a high draft pick for a coach.
