  • Complete rebuild is needed?

I just read an article about trading away some of our quality players that only know losing and going with a full rebuild. It got me thinking that it's not a terrible idea.

Simmons is one player mentioned and while I think he's a great safety he would clear up cap space and should net a decent pick in return.

I've said before that Dremont is one of the best players on the defense but if he doesn't want to be here then tag and trade him as well.

Sutton is another option that could net a decent pick and also clear up cap space. I don't know what happened to him but he doesn't look like the guy he was before the ACL injury.

Hamler probably should have been traded before the deadline and could possibly be moved in the off season.

Trading Simmons, Sutton and Hamler while cutting Darby, Glasgow, McManus and Edmonds would have us at 70 million in cap space.

They're all losers. All of them can go. Every last one. We all know about Hackett and Wilson but every game but 2 have been close and I don't see a single one making a game changing play to win the game. Not sure how you rebuild with that albatross RW hanging around your neck. The rebuild can't/won't happen until you get him off the books. We're looking at probably 10 years minimum before this team will have a chance at relevancy again.

Cut Wilson and eat the dead money and do a complete rebuild!
That is the only way out of this hell hole we are in!
Recycling Head Coaches will not fix the elephant in the room! Wilson sucks! He should retire and ride off into the sunset.

I don't have an issue with this, outside of Surtain nobody is untouchable. you either keep Wilson and become a run first team, and try to keep that Defense together... or you decide to rip off the bandaid, and acknowledge you're gonna be bottom tier for a few seasons as you eat cap and rebuild.

Either option probably yields similar results.

Moving Chubb may tell us something about the franchises direction...

I think people are just hashing out the options. I wish our offense was 100% healthy, it would make this all easier. I'm still in disbelief Wilson is this bad. I mean its so precipitous.

I’d leave the defense intact, but who cares about the offense, they suck, trade them all. Of course, nobody on offense has any value, so…. I guess that strategy is out lol

Dulcich, Javonte if he's able to recover, same with Patrick. Murray can stay on a very friendly deal. Other than that, nobody else is a must keep.

" What needs to change for Denver?

Writing 2022 off as a lost season, here's what the Broncos need to do to get the most out of Wilson in 2023 and beyond.

                  1. Move on from Hackett. While he is generally regarded around the league as a nice guy -- and coaches have survived worse starts to their head-coaching careers -- it's difficult to find any evidence that he has been suited for this opportunity. His early-season game management blunders cost the Broncos at least one win, and while he has been thoughtful about bringing in help and ceding responsibility to try to create a better atmosphere, I'm not sure there's much he can hang his hat on after a woeful campaign. A reunion with Rodgers -- either in Green Bay or elsewhere -- would make sense for both parties.

                  2. Keep Ejiro Evero. The best thing Hackett has done in his tenure is hire Evero to be his defensive coordinator. The Broncos rank fourth in the league in defensive EPA per play allowed. Evero has built one of the league's stoutest defenses while missing key contributors Justin Simmons and Randy Gregory for chunks of time. The much-vaunted pass rush duo of Gregory and Chubb combined to play just 101 snaps together, as Gregory went down injured before Chubb was traded to the Dolphins. NFL Playoff Machine

Evero will attract head-coaching consideration this offseason, and the Broncos should give serious thought to making him their own head coach this spring. Promoting Evero would limit who they can talk to for their offensive coordinator gig, since they wouldn't be able to offer a promotion to offensive coordinators around the league. If they hire an offensive coordinator to be their head coach and lose Evero in the process, though, they will take a step forward and backward at the same time.

                  3. Hire a coach or coordinator with a track record of molding offenses to unique quarterbacks. After going for a first-time head coach in Hackett, I have to imagine Denver would pursue a more experienced option to take over the offense. I'm sure it is one of the many teams that would be interested in coaxing Sean Payton out of retirement, but even after getting a first-round pick back in the Chubb deal, I don't know that it has the sort of draft capital the Saints will want for their former coach.

A more realistic option would be Frank Reich, who had built a series of solid offenses around different passers before things fell apart in Indianapolis this season. Reich also is a free agent, so the Broncos could hire him as their offensive coordinator if Reich's interested in that role. Maybe Kubiak is that guy if the Broncos look better over the second half of the season and think he can rebuild the offense over the offseason.

Whoever ends up running the offense for Denver needs to construct an offense around Wilson and his skill set. The Broncos need to boot Wilson out more often. They need to use more play-action. They need to create more easy answers for Wilson, and given his unique stature and style, those answers might be different than they would be for other quarterbacks. (I'd trust Wilson more with throws to the flat than quick throws over the middle of the field, as an example.) In what might be a painful admission for a certain cooking-based movement, he also needs more of a running game than what he has had.

                  4. Get healthy. Easy, right? The Broncos would look different with Williams, Jeudy, Patrick, Dulcich, Bolles and Cushenberry all on the field at the same time, something which didn't happen for a single snap this season. They likely will address right tackle again this offseason and should bring in another back to rotate alongside Williams and Boone, but most of their offensive core is already present. Getting them on the field should improve matters.

There's no way to sugarcoat what we've seen in 2022. Wilson has been bad. The Broncos have been awful. It's not a fluke or bad luck, and it's telling that the best piece of evidence suggesting Wilson might turn things around is a game against the Raiders where the offense scored 16 points. There's no secret formula or hidden stat suggesting they are about to fix this overnight.

We also have a decade of play suggesting Wilson is a top-10 quarterback and one season suggesting he's a fabulously compensated Mitch Trubisky impersonator. While that one year is the most meaningful and recent data point, it's not the only one. I'm still willing to hold out some hope that Wilson turns things around and looks more like the guy the Broncos thought they were acquiring in March. I'm just not sure that transformation is going to happen before this season is over"

Simmons is overrated. Maybe it’s because he plays for a losing team constantly. He always looks scared to make a tackle. I’m good with getting a 2nd & whatever else for him. I don’t get the Jones love. He’s solid but gets abused in the run game. Hamler has been hurt his entire time in the NFL. I’m good with cutting all the players mentioned. This team is full of JAGs. Jewell is easily replaceable too. Usually getting torched in pass coverage. We haven’t had a legit MLB since Wilson.

Actually they aren't the best (anymore). They rank 3rd against the pass and 14th against the run. Overall they rank as the 8th best defense in the league. Yesterday's game was very telling about the motivation of the players at this point in a lost season

Lol, with Wilson's contract it would be pointless. So "blow up" means sell anything worth a damm and focus on drafting and building from within. If we sold some of the young talent we have it still wouldn't make a drop in the bucket for the draft compensation we gave up for Wilson. Best we can hope for is a much less embarrassing effort for the next couple of years. When we are free of Wilson's contract we will have options again. 2023, 2024, and probably 2025 we are ****ed unless Wilson remembers how to play QB again.

it appears we have locked in some losses for awhile. its hard to even try to **** up this bad.

Very few players on the team should be off the table in any trade negotiations. Get whatever you can for whoever you can if you don't think they are a fit here long-term or deserve an extension.

There are like a half dozen players on the roster who have ever experienced a winning season in the pros. Virtually all of them free agents who have experienced some winning elsewhere.

In-house guys? McManus has the glory of Super Bowl 50. Simmons rookie year the team was 9-7. Everything else has been a losing season. Every player drafted from 2017 to now has been on a losing quad. Is there another player I'm missing that has been a long-term Bronco whose been a winner? IDK.

Teams that don't have experienced coaches with a proven history of winning need veteran players who know what it is like to win to keep morale up and actually have a plan to win games and get out of a slump. Denver really doesn't.

Time to rid the team of its losing stench. Mass exodus of players coming!

I think this is key here:

Whoever ends up running the offense for Denver needs to construct an offense around Wilson and his skill set. The Broncos need to boot Wilson out more often. They need to use more play-action. They need to create more easy answers for Wilson, and given his unique stature and style, those answers might be different than they would be for other quarterbacks. (I'd trust Wilson more with throws to the flat than quick throws over the middle of the field, as an example.) In what might be a painful admission for a certain cooking-based movement, he also needs more of a running game than what he has had.

Would certainly help if they could run the ball though.
