The cost of trading your best DE's is catching up with Paton. Dre is not pleased with George at all:

    https://www.si.com/nfl/broncos/news/...igning-broncos

“I view my standing with the franchise as, this is Dre going into Year 4, that’s all I can say,” said Jones.

...in other words - Hey Dre, would you like to finish here? Well, I'm here now and the end is close.

After watching Malik, Von, Chubb and Shelby all be traded, why would he want to stay?

Malik? He was not traded, he signed with Jacksonville as a free agent in 2016, when Dre'Mont was a freshman at Ohio State.

Shelby was not a core player and was traded in a valid attempt to land a franchise QB.

Von is playing at a high level now, but he was not making plays for the Broncos when he got traded. Lack of motivation or whatever, he just was not making any impact. And the Rams did not bring him back, he was available in free agency but Paton avoided him for things that happened off the field.

Chubb missed 24 games with the Broncos, huge injury risk for a GM under scrutiny, especially considering the premium contract that made Chubb one of the highest-paid defenders.

Honestly, I don't think Dre'Mont is a must-have for this team. He's been an okay DT for 3 seasons, then curiously stepped up in his contract year and is probably pushing for premium money. What if he is looking for Aaron Donald money? And to me he acts like a jerk from time to time, on and off the field. Maybe Paton should have traded him too if there was a good offer on the table.

It's interesting how Belichick spent his coach/GM career making these same types of trades when he was not willing to pay top money for a certain player and he's considered a genius.

Agreed! If he doesn't want to be here, and based on his language, he doesn't, then giving him a huge contract won't change his attitude. Best to let him go.

I dont think Dremont is worth close to 20 per year. If he is being a bit of a bitch tag and trade him.

I also agree with -Rod-. Don’t act like a whiny bitch just because your boy got traded. Grow up and man up. He’s good but not that good. Certainly hasn’t earned the cred to act like this.

I posted this yesterday with some concerns but maybe worth asking if we’re overreacting to what is essentially a player saying “no comment” to his contract situation? There’s nothing overtly negative said here and he has the right to maximize his value and leverage by not gushing over how much he wants to be here. And he never has much to say one way or the other anyway. Not sure it is fair to say he is being a bitch. 🤷‍♂️

This is year 7 of irrelevant bottom feeding…a selling team every year whos season is over in Octobers….

can’t hate a player who would want to leave a trainwreck.

this is why I said this team has to overpay to keep any talent, and even then it’s a shot in the dark. If they want to keep Jones they’ll have to overpay.

Exactly and I see what you’re saying. They’re still under the impression where they think they can say “we are the great Denver Broncos”. Those times have passed and there’s nothing great about this organization now.

If a contract can't get done he's definitely getting the franchise tag, the question is weather it's a tag and trade or just play out the year on the tag.

When all is said and done though I expect him to sign a contract slightly higher than what DJ Jones got, somewhere around 12-14 mil per year with a 10 mil signing bonus.

Gotta sit him down and let him know that Chubb was traded because he's the opposite of Dremont and they valued him more and couldn't sign both of them back next year.

explain how Paton should sign both Chubb and Jones to 4 year $100M contracts otherwise his GM style is poisonous. somehow he must orchestrate a signing of Chubb in order to appease Jones when Chubbs play here does not warrant $20M a year. he’s just not a game changer.

hindsight being 20/20 explain what did you wanted Paton to do here?

Keep both here and do what this off-season?

both want to play together and accept less than market contracts to make that happen?

Wolf argues both sides so he can moan and bitch no matter what. He trashed Chubb as an Elway draft bust in the same thread he whined about the Broncos trading him.

Paton did an amazing job getting value for Bradley, end of story.

Dremont has every right to be personally “upset” about missing his friend, but anyone thinking the Broncos FO didn’t handle this properly are deluded.

Look at all the interviews with Chubb the week before the trade - he knew it was coming. I’m guessing there was a 95% chance he got to pick Miami from a couple interested teams.

Paton HAS decided to try to keep our own players instead of just letting them hit free agency. If they won’t sign a reasonable contract, then they are allowed to test the market. Somehow there is a false narrative that we aren’t willing to pay a fair contract, and that’s a bold faced lie. Paton makes fair offers, but won’t “sink” the finances to keep average production.

Is there a single person on this board that would have agreed to the money Miami just paid Bradley? If so, you’ve been sniffing too much glue

This , also Jones should know comments like this could end up costing him million on a signing bonus. Whether he signs with us again or a different team .

This isn't even news to me. Jones will be fine once he's paid.

The narrative that Paton doesn't take care of our own, what - because Chubb & Von were traded under circumstances where they weren't coming back? Wonder if Simmons thinks he was taken care of, or Patrick, or Sutton.

It's been a far cry from the Elway years when a player wasn't being brought back unless it was on a friendly deal. Remember the DT or Von negotiations? I don't know how "taken care of" those guys felt during that period. DT was eventually unceremoniously dumped, Sanders, too.
