  • Following trade deadline, GM George Paton believes in depth, leadership of 2022 Broncos

''In the wake of the Broncos' decision to agree to terms on a trade that sent outside linebacker Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins, General Manager George Paton was quite clear.

The move is not a white flag, and it's not a sign that the Broncos are giving up on the 2022 campaign.

Instead, Paton said Tuesday, the team's expectations have not changed — even as the Broncos move forward without Chubb and with a 3-5 record...''

I know Chubb was a locker room leader however, when you have pass rushing talent like the Broncos have, how can you not accept a first round pick for that guy?

A guy that you know was going to leave via free agency unless he’s paid 20 million per year. Now, it comes down to it who would be more valuable to the team, an interior pass rusher who’s about to break the market or another outside edge rusher when you’re loaded at the position?

    I swear this fan base!

It would be 40 million per year technically, because Chubb always plays half a season at most...

Paton can say this a million times, but seriously, if this team was 6-2 right now and sitting on top of the division, no way Chubb gets traded. Winning teams simply don’t do that.

Well of course. That’s the definition of buyer and seller teams. The difference is stacked playoff teams can absorb the loss of Chubb at seasons end with nothing to show in return because the roster is solid…bad teams have to invest as much draft capital as possible especially when the high picks are thin for 2 years.

if the team is 6-2 Chubb stays until FA then he’s gone….with no 1st round pick in 2023 and likely no comp pick due to FA additions.

I am glad we finally have owners and not Ellis. Paton can say whatever we want.. if you look around, teams that are giving up good players are the one's that are not competing this season.

If we didn't trade those picks for Wilson...we would have surely drafted a QB prospect of some kind with some measure of those picks in last year's draft. We got a 1st rounder back for next year by moving someone that was not in the long term plans of the team. We've lost a bit in draft capital regardless, but it's not as much as people think or quote. Our draft capital losses are only thorugh April of next year. Then its back to normal. We have a good GM.

Yeah I thought that was a dumb statement, the “if we were 5-3 instead of 3-5, we’d still do this deal.”

Nobody believes that and Paton was straight up lying. I understand why the comment was made, you want to keep the locker room intact but it’s a moot point when you got players already tweeting and posting how much it sucks.

Listen, more importantly, Gordon is still the starter for the Broncos....

Gordon had a 9-29-1 line and added three catches for 23 yards last week, but Murray had a 14-46-1 line. It would at least make sense Edmonds becomes the team's third down and pass catching back once he's up to speed. Gordon may be the starter but the two have pretty much split the work over the last

              WTF?

Did you hear GP say there are holes on offense that need to be address. I assume with the #1 pick. Has to be Olineman

Love it. Go find another Browning/D Jones in the 3rd but lets draft a quality Olineman in the first

Paton's full of shit. Anybody who really thinks this fraud is going to win you a Super Bowl is fooling themselves. He's chasing his tail from ****ing up last off season. Sooner Penner flushes this whole front office the better.

I believe him. It makes sense, and I would have done the same. Getting the 1st is the master part of it.

I don’t think so. It would be dumb to mess with a team at 5-3 or 6-2 in the middle of a playoff run. Paton would probably tag and trade Chubb in that scenario.

                          Paton’s three biggest mistakes:

                          1. Trading for Russell Wilson
                          2. Hiring Hackett as a head coach (biggest head scratcher)
                          3. Extending Wilson to a big money contract prior to seeing him play

I do not consider trading Chubb to Miami as a mistake. Paton got more in return than many of us expected.

Chubb trade was a great move. Now throw some money at Dremont and an offensive lineman or 2 in FA and draft 1 in the top 2 rounds because I don't think we keep that 1st.

Only losers sell but dealing Chubb was a no brainer, especially for a first. Dolphins got duped

In Von Miller's case, he was even available in FA this year. The Broncos chose not to pursue him for whatever reason that made Paton dislike Miller.

The Dolphins sent Laremi Tunsil to the Texans in 2019. With the picks from that trade, they were able to get Jaylen Waddle, Jevon Holland, Tyreek Hill and now Bradley Chubb.

If Paton had signed Chubb to a huge contract and then Chubb got injured again, the same people complaining about the trade would rip Paton for keeping and extending Chubb.

Per the value, an interesting comparison is when the Texans traded Jadeveon Clowney. A productive, yet often injured player.

Clowney was on the franchise tag when he was traded to Seattle in 2019 for Barkevious Mingo, Jacob Martin (lol), and a 3rd round pick. Clowney lasted only 1 season in Seattle.
