  • Christian McCaffrey trade?

    3. Broncos

Nathaniel Hackett's team-up with Russell Wilson has been erratic at best, and GM George Paton proved this offseason he's willing to go big to fill holes sooner rather than later. With Javonte Williams out for the year and Melvin Gordon in the doghouse as a steady fumbler, Denver could use an adrenaline injection in the backfield, especially with Wilson struggling to elevate the squad. McCaffrey's short-area receiving ability would also bode well for Russ establishing a rhythm. As a bonus, there's a hometown connection, with McCaffrey growing up in Colorado as the son of former Broncos standout Ed McCaffrey

He’d be awesome if we had any picks left to trade. πŸ˜‚

We already have no picks next year. Can he throw the ball? We need a ****ing QB.

..."and Melvin Gordon in the doghouse" - he played 56% of the snaps vs the Colts and carried the ball 15 times...

        McCaffrey's cap numbers:

        2023: $19,550,750

        2024: $19,550,750

        2025: $15,450,750

Paton needs draft picks. If anything, the Broncos will also be looking to trade some of their players. Maybe Paton can find player-for-player trades but it's unlikely it would be for McCaffrey.

Those are the cap hits to the Panthers. His cap hits to a team that would trade for him....

          11 mil
          11 mil
          12 mil

          None of that guaranteed.

That said, I still would love to see Denver make this trade. They won't...it's a bad idea...even for a Broncos squad that's had many of bad ideas lately.

I read somewhere Carolina would agree to eat salary...so they'd convert some of this salary to signing bonus, pay him, then absorb it as a cap hit when traded. Denver, even if they wanted to...doesn't have the picks to be trading on a RB. Of all the positions on the Broncos, even with Javonte out...RB isn't really a problem...not one that you should throw resources at for sure.

I mean, who is paying that salary? I’m not sure they can trade him for anything other than cap relief. So sure, here’s a fifth rounder?

and honestly the idea that we’re worried about picks is pretty dumb at this point. They need to start using the other methods of acquiring talent. Rams have proven drafting isnt the be all end all. Unfortunately Paton isnt that creative and is a scouting nerd but probably not much more.

That train has left the station. It would need to be at a home discount.

get another injured player and be surprised when he gets hurt.

Trade him to UNC so his dad can coach all his kids.

You do this deal in a heartbeat! The Panthers are eating most of his $. McCaffrey basically becomes your starting RB and slot receiver. Gives the fanbase (especially the locals) an injection of hope with homegrown talent and it won't cost you a fortune in terms of a trade. Add in the fact that Javonte may have a real long road to recovery and if he does recover, the Broncos love the 1/2 punch anyhow... the 1/2 being Javonte and a 2nd RB in McCaffrey that can actually stay on the field as he is the best pass catching RB the league has ever seen (no disrespect to Marshall Faulk)... just put him in motion and let him play what is perhaps is most comfortable position.

This could get done for a 4th and 6th round pick. You aren't going to bring back Melvin Gordon so that frees up $4m right there. And, if Javonte does struggle to return to the field which is a real possibility, you're covered.

There's 99 reasons that we should do this and 1 that we shouldn't... If he comes to Denver given the way our season has gone there is 100% chance the dude ends up on the IR. :/

If it could really get done for a 4th and 6th then sure. But I really doubt it.

PS. Home game No Shows have gone up by about 25% each week. Last week, you saw fans leaving at the end of regulation with equal opportunity to win or lose. They had a bunch of them call into the Fan yesterday. All of them said, "It didn't matter at that point if we won or lost... the product is crap and even if we won we would still be talking about how bad the Broncos are."

When you have No Shows going up and fans bailing before OT begins you have to see that you're losing a piece of your fanbase. McCaffrey injects enthusiasm in the fan base. I don't expect out oft owners to understand it. If you had followed McCaffrey out here for years it would make more sense. When he was in 7th grade people were talking about him being a future Broncos RB. He was that different all the way through HS.

                            I agree with 76er!

Invest resources at RB! Make the product mediocre enough to consume for 4 quarters!

Dalton Risner's the best I can do. Take it or leave it Carolina.

In the scenario where it's shuffling players who don't have a future here or Day 3 choices ('23 or '24)β€”it's worth inquiring.

                                  Mortgaging early-round capital in 2024 can't happen.

I doubt that either of Denver's third-rounders this year would be enough to pry him from Carolina.

we would be noticeably better playing hinton and mccaffery. but paton is probably gunshy and doesnt got the balls. he's worried about draft picks even though we have young players everywhere already.

Exactly!!! More 3rd-7th rounders is not what this team needs. Love the Sterns and Mathis type players but they do not move the needle in terms of holding each other accountable. We need some veteran leadership in a very bad way.

The real question is: if we trade for CMC, how often will he and Brett Rypien pull off a successful Parent Trap?
