  • Manning/GASE Rodgers/Hackett

I was thinking about Rodgers comments endorsing Hackett back before Denver hired him to be the head coach and it struck me that Rodgers is a hard headed stuborn guy, who probably will stubornly take to some coaching, but wants "his guy" as the QB coach or OC....like Hackett was in GB.

LaFluer was fairly stern and business like while Hackett is more like your pal that is also in the coaches ear.

Gase seems like he was similar though not nearly as gooberish, for Manning.

Manning reccomended Gase to anyone who inquired about his prospects as a HC.
Rodgers had glowing things to say about Hackett.

Gase was a terrible HC, and Hackett is off to a horrible start, and doesn't look like an HC either.

Maybe some of you can think of some other examples like this, but just in these two cases, it doesn't seem like a good idea to hire a strong willed QB's pal, to be a HC. That personality and skill set aren't a match for a HC job, but might be just what strong willed, stubborn QB's need.

Adam Gase reportedly did not connect with his players when he became head coach.

It's another year out of the playoffs, and New York is in need of another coach. This time, the Jets need a strong leader who will develop talent.

Gase's shortcomings stretched beyond the failure of the offense. He didn't connect with the locker room, resulting in unhappy players (Jamal Adams, Le'Veon Bell, et al) and ugly injury disputes. (In fairness, let's give him credit for recognizing Bell was a bad investment, but no one in the organization listened to him.) One player told ESPN recently, "[Gase] won't take the blame for anything."

In a late-November practice, Gase and guard Alex Lewis got into a heated exchange. Lewis questioned Gase's desire to win, said one source, adding that Lewis articulated in front of the team what every player was thinking but was afraid to say.
I don't see that with Hackett so far, especially when it comes to taking the blame. Hackett may not be HC material for other reasons. Even though he accepts the blame, if it's too much blame... It's not good.

Gase was/is a head case. Watch his initial press conference with the Jets and the weird eyes thing. The guys just not all there, plus he’s an a-hole

I see your comparison but Gase and Hackett are completey different personalities. People actually like Hackett where Gase is more of a MCD type.

It doesn’t matter how they are failing/failed. Whether it was asshole personality or lack of game management skills etc…the point he’s making is 2 HOF QBs made statements about endorsing these coaches being HCs…and it didn’t pan out for whatever reasons.

im convinced if Rodgers never said things about Hackett Broncos would have a different HC right now.

Tom Brady did this with McDaniels and the Colts took the bait. That’s 3 examples.

To me hiring Hackett was akin to hiring McDaniels. Supposedly an OC that made their QB's much better. BS in both cases. Hackett never even called the plays. I don't believe either QB had a great affinity towards their OC, except for friendship. Both QB's and Manning could have success without those OC's. That's why I didn't want the hire. I did hope Hackett had learned something from observation but maybe he was goofing off.

I don't remember any narrative that Hackett made Rodgers much better. Hackett called plays for the Jaguars [but was fired by Marrone in 2018]. Rodgers certainly had great affinity towards Hackett, respects him as a coach.

I said great affinity, as far as their own success. The Jacksonville time is so overblown for Hackett. It was one year, where I will hand it to Hackett as far as the run game, but they also had the 2nd ranked D. Before then and after then, with Hackett, the O sucked. Players will often say nice things about people they work with, often based on a friendship, because none of those guys, Manning, Brady, Rodgers, needed those OC's nor were made better by those guys.
