Watching the TNF game. I know he's a legend, but he seems thoroughly bored when he calls games. I don't know if it's because he's tired, old, past his prime or some combination, but he's pretty rough to listen to.

I'm inclined to give Al a pass for the night. The obvious story and narrative was the Dolphin's (and to a degree the NFL's) blatant mishandling of Tua's health which lead to a potentially devastating injury. From that point on, a lot of fans were likely more invested in twitter feeds giving medical updates on the status of Tua than they were in the game. But, Al likely had marching orders from his overlords to move on from the defining moment of the night and focus on the play by play of the game. Given those circumstances, I can't fault him too much for being a less than enthusiastic participant.Comment

Speaking of Alfie's Shanahan crush, is the story he told about Dolphins new coach Mike McDaniel true? As a kid, McDaniel lost his cap while watching the Broncos training camp in Greeley with his mom, and the Broncos assistant video director found a cap to replace it for him, just to be nice. While doing so the video guy met and eventually married McDaniel's mom ... then years later this video guy/step-dad helped McDaniel get his NFL start as a coaching intern with Mike Shanahan?!Originally posted by bronco militia View Post

Alfie also missed a huge opportunity to fill in some historical significance there ..... he mentioned that Cincinnati was an AFL expansion team in 1968. What he could have added was that both these teams tonight were AFL expansion teams - Dolphins in 66, Bengals in 68. AFL went from 8 teams when they started in 1960, to 10 teams after these expansions and to the merger.Comment

After the late Vin Scully & Chick Hearn, Al Michaels was always my favorite announcer. But I noticed that something was off with him in this new gig. You are right, he looks bored.
