This is one of the worst screw jobs I’ve ever seen & on prime time football. They took a Bears TD away, didn’t flag roughing the passer. Called taunting after a sack of Cheeseburgler.
If you thought the taunting call on Bears linebacker Cassius Marsh was weird, another element of the broader incident was even weirder. Marsh, flagged for taunting the sideline and/or Pittsburgh’s punter after a key fourth-quarter sack of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, jogged past referee Tony Corrente, before the flag was thrown. Corrente, as noted by [more]
Go watch the 4 personal foul penalties against the Bills in the first half of last Sunday’s game… the officiating in the NFL is often horrible and tips games in one direction.

I’ve noticed it has been particularly bad this year. I thought they did better last year, but tge calls in some games are just crazy. This taunting rule is incredibly dumb. These aren’t robots on the field. They get excited, mad, etc. Calling personal fouls for shit talking is ridiculous. It’s so subjective. And Jeudy can’t shoot a bow and arrow after a catch? C’mon.
Chicago lost by a very late fg. The taunting penalty came after a huge sack of Cheeseburglar and instead gave Pittsburgh a first down and a fg instead of a punt (also lost time in the game).
Earlier Chicago had a TD taken off the board by a phantom holding call. Greise couldn’t see it at all. Then the next two plays could have easily been ruled roughing the QB with hits on Fields.
As a football fan I find games like this very unacceptable. Refs gifting trams a win with this many errors or some sort of bias is disturbing.
When Marsh was running back to the sidelines after his sack of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, he made some contact with Corrente.
The contact appeared incidental on Marsh's part, although Corrente did seem to stick his body out in a hip-checking motion when Marsh ran past. Corrente then threw a flag as the contact was taking place.
While speaking to reporters after the game, Marsh took issue with the apparent hip check, saying: "On my way to the sideline, I got hip-checked by the ref. It's pretty clear. If I was to do that to a ref or even touch a ref, we get kicked out of the game and possibly suspended and fined. I just think that that was incredibly inappropriate."
Corrente told Hoge the contact between himself and Marsh had nothing to do with the flag, and that it was based solely on his belief that Marsh was taunting the Pittsburgh sideline.
The 29-year-old Marsh is a journeyman player in his eighth NFL season and playing for his eighth different team.
I agree the Bears got jobbed by the refs. The taunting call was ticky-tacky, but Marsh was taunting to a certain degree. I’ve seen much worse not be called. That officiating crew earned the rest of the season off in my opinion.

Its strange the NFL can be okay with men getting brain damage, but **** don't talk shit to an opposing player... lol

Grown men can orchestrate a skit on a TD, but it is OUT OF BOUNDS to entertain the crowd with a little shit talking... NFL, lol!

I’m not sure where that penalty came from I regards to rational thinking. It clearly is going to be very subjective. When it is so subjective, an official should not use it unless it’s blasts that when it clearly impacts the outcome of the game.
I think he stared at the bench? C’mon.
I see players now afraid to be excited. Humans show emotion. I could see calling it on someone who just doesn’t let something go and us in a persons face or standing over them and won’t let them get up, but the NFL is ridiculous. I feel for the players.
Jeudy on mic’d up was well aware of a fine if he did his bow and arrow celebration.
Marsh was in this game from the practice squad. I understand the taunting penalty but I look at it as a player getting into the face of the opposing player or standing over a player on the ground. It's been taken way to far. Marsh was excited and I don't understand the flag on this one or that it wasn't thrown until he made incidental contact with the ref. May have taken the game away from the Bears but I also have to criticize the neutral zone infractions Chicago kept getting. That could have been the real cause for losing the game.

Something is not right with that ref and that game was taken away from Chicago. Certainly taken out of letting the players decide it.
As a football fan, this ref needs to be disciplined.
Just heard Chris Simms say Corrente got personal with him during a game because he dropped an F bomb when he got hit late. Corrente stopped warning him when they were coming out of commercials and just blew the game live and when Simms asked him why he wasn't giving him the usual courtesy Corrente said he needed to apologize for swearing at him. Sounds like he thinks he is above the game. Has some MLB umpire genes.
