  • Annual "looking for sports talk/podcast feedback" thread.

I am a pretty regular listener to Broncos-related sports podcasts/sports talk radio. I listen to DNVR's Broncos show most days. I also like Troy Renck's podcast (used to like him a lot back when he was on the Rockies beat).

But that's where it falls off. 104.3 The Fan has gotten terrible. I personally loved Sandy Clough. He could be annoying, but he was a Denver sports encyclopedia. I'm going to miss him. Dmac and Tyler Polumbus were okay for a fairly short while. But the more seniority Dmac gets among Denver sports media personalities, the more smug and overbearing he gets. (On a side note, what's the story behind him using the term "muggles" to refer to other sports media guys? It's cringeworthy. It reminds me of when mock arbitrarily decided to start calling Jay Cutler "Blade" - just slipped it in and started referring to him that way one day, like we wouldn't notice, and it would just take off. It didn't.) Everything on KOA radio seems to be directed at the casual fan. It's been awhile since I listened to anything on Altitude.

Anyone else that I should be listening to? Anyone you especially like?

I really enjoy the crew at Mile High Sports. The Let's Talk Broncos podcast has three different main personalities (plus guests) and they do good interaction with the listeners.

Unless you're going to interact with the show, YouTube is a good source for clips.

Yeah. I remember that "Blade" thing. Never did understand that.

Muggles is a term used in the geocache community. It means the people who are in an area of a geocache but don’t know anything about geocaching. So I think he’s using it as a term for other sports media who don’t talk football and aren’t in the loop for football info.

I stopped listening to DNVR when Mase left. Zac Stevens makes me want to bang my head on a desk until I’m unconscious and not just because of the laugh.

I like Cody Roark but the Locked on Broncos show is pretty much Broncos fluffing.

No clue what’s going on with The Fan these days, but I heard Stokley might have gotten Polumbus fired.

Agreed plus DNVR interjects their political views at times or they talk Rockies and Nuggets. I dont listen to Broncos pods to hear about those two teams.

DNVR became to much of a cool kids club for me, to be honest. Losing Mase sealed it for me.

Oh and Broncos Country Tonight is decent if you can stomach Allbright’s self-aggrandizement and constant shots at D-Mac and James Merilllatt.

....I am not from Denver and don't consume Denver radio or TV, but I have caught a podcast or 2 about the Broncos here and there.

First, that Zak Stevens dude is the WORST. His laugh makes me want to punch a wall....and when he talks, he has NOTHING....absolutlely NOTHING to say that he didn't just cut and paste from Twitter or the teams official injury report, depth chart, news release etc. He has NO capacity to craft an original thought. How did he get a platform?

              2. I've done the Broncos Country Tonight a few times here and there knowing they are the guys being paid by the Broncos. I usually catch a little of it (like this week and last) the day after a bad or controversial game to see what the Broncos brass is letting these guys say. If you use this podcast as a tool to try and gain an insight on what hte powers that be think...it's usefull..so for example, Allbright has had no problem putting it out there that Hackett won't be fired in season, but that he will be subject to review and possible dismissal at the end of this season. To me...Albright put that out because he's heard that in the building. .....but other than that....they have Tim Jenkins come on....and that's pretty comical. That dude claimed he could fix Drew Lock last year and generally seems to just stick his finger in the air to see what way the wind is blowing and then formalates his schpeil off that. Allbright does seem to have some good contacts in the building and some in other places around the league.

              3. I've also done Locked on Broncos...all the locked on podcasts are very fluffy. The Locked on Chiefs one is quite the love fest as well.

              4. Brandon Perna is at times, entertaining.....but ironically, to me, it's when he's genuinely pissed off about the Broncos, that I find him fun to listen to. his comedy act, isn't especially funny but that's what his goal is.

Cody and Sayre are pretty good with Locked on Broncos as well. The owner of the Locked On pod series asked me to do that podcast when it got started. Didn't want to have to record shit every day! Cody's done a great job with it.

Tyler seems to think the 104.3 office is the locker room (starts at about 1:45 into the podcast). Stoke left his phone behind and Tyler and Dmac cracked the code (141414) in about 1 second and unlocked it. Stoke came back for it and was not happy. Tyler started talking about hacking his bank acct, etc thinking he was funny. The next day Tyler wasn't on the air and then a few days later Tyler announced he was out at the fan.

DNVR had a good thing when they had Mase mixed with RK and Zac even though Mase was a grouch. Older generation with younger. Now with Mase gone the show isn't as good. I think they just need someone a little older with some experience to mix in.

Mase and Cecil Lammey have teamed up for a daily videocast which seems pretty good so far.

Yeah Cody I personally think will get pretty high up in the broadcasting world. Locked On pods usually aren't that good but the Denver one is pretty good with those two guys. Listen to the Raiders or KC one and you can see how bad they can be. The Raider one is entertaining with the call in homers and the KC guys are pretty stereotypical KC fans that think they are winning by 40 points every week and the next 20 NFL titles.

This is accurate. Not that anyone here wants to consume Chiefs media, but Red Gold and Bold is a good one. Soren Petro (local radio host) Jeff Chadiha, NFL.com writer, used to work for SI..and Eric Eager...data/analytics guy.

Same three guys do one called too deep NFL podcast that covers just the NFL and not Chiefs. good mix of Chadiha who is old school, not a numbers guy, having a good back and forth with Eager, who is all numbers all the time..and Petro who fall somehwere in the middle.

Wel,, why wasn’t Dmac fired? He was in on it, wasn’t he? First Nick(deservedly), then Sandy’s retirement, and now Tyler is fired over a prank. Hmmm… too much of a coincidence for me.

Now James Merilatt is filling in with DMac. What a pair. The Double Douche Hour.

My guess is because he was not physically holding the phone and withholding it from Stokely when he asked for it back. Tyler did that.

I agree with you. I think Cody's career will really take off. He has the passion, dedication and knows quite a bit about the game too. He honestly does sound a lot like Adam Schefter! Definitely way better with him and Sayre than it was in the beginning with Chad Jensen from Mile High Huddle guys and Luc Polgaze. Pretty sure Chad had to stop with the show because of MHH's success and that being transferred and sold to a few different companies. Lots of companies that pay people to do sports writing, etc. have it in their contracts that you can only produce content for them. It's really dumb.
