  • Let's talk about the defense.

I think the lack of contact in the pre season played a major part in the 1st half performance. They tightened up in the 2nd half not allowing any points but Singleton missing the sack on Geno on their 1st TD was pitiful as was the play of Griffith on the TD to Parkinson. We were truly missing Jewell out there and should most definitely look into bringing AJ back or Blake Martinez.
Another thought is that maybe just maybe you keep Barron Browning at ILB considering he was the best player at that position last season, he's looked good at OLB as well but we already had Cooper and drafted Bonito in the 2nd round over Nakobe Dean who could have been a day 1 starter at ILB for us.

The defensive line looked great. They were clogging up the running lanes all night. Only gave up 1 run of 10 yards that I remember.

Pass rush was pretty non existent in the 1st half and if they did get home they missed the tackle on Geno, 2nd half Chubb came back to life with 2 sacks and Gregory pushed the pocket a little bit.

Surtain was locked in and held DK to 36 yards on 7 receptions and Simmons had some nice plays in run support but other than that it wasn't pretty. The safety's gave up up on coverage to attack Geno on scrambles like he was Vick and left the TEs wide open down field. Kareem looked old and slow, maybe it's time to get Sterns in the starting lineup. Darby and Williams looked meh and we should have looked to upgrade the #2 CB with a guy like Haden or Rhodes.

Yeah I dunno what to say about that. Some stupid penalties (Chubb, Cooper and KJack) and blown coverages in the first half. The inability to pressure Geno at all in the first half, especially against that OL was really concerning. I almost wonder if Evero got a call from Dom Capers at halftime to get his head in the game.

I was ready to kick Chubb to the curb after the first half, but maybe that was just rust. I actually liked Darby, I think it's the first time I've seen him play, missed his few games last year. I didn't notice Simmons at all except for his fumble recovery, I always expect more from him. DJ Jones is the nose tackle we've all been dying for, the Hawks were not remotely interested in running up the middle.

IT was a bullshit penalty on Cooper and on Chubb.

He missed a tackle in the hole on Penny I believe. Penny had a good run because of it.

The call on Cooper is soft but it's right by the rule book. The bad part is he started to get up and go then the guy tried to push him off and he decided to stand over him. Gotta keep a cool head and just get back, 2nd guy always gets caught. The Chubb penalty was complete horse stuff. No helmet to helmet he simply pushed him as he was throwing.

We didn’t really get to see them much the second half because broncos controlled the clock, but they adjusted and did their job so kudos to them

Obviously the defense struggled in the first half but there is a scenario where Seattle scores like 6 points in this game. The inexplicable Singleton whiff that led to a TD, the garbage penalties extending the other two scoring drives. It was some fluky shit + some obvious rust.

The base personnel really got taken to the woodshed early by Waldron. They had a great plan to exploit our linebackers and edge rushers in coverage. You can’t always get out of your base looks so this has to improve.

Literally everything that could have went Seattle’s way did.

I think Defense did fine. Maybe even better than fine.

Yeah, getting back their own fumbles every time was surreal.

Insightful post -- I like it.

Waldron out-schemed Evero badly in the first half. What's encouraging to me is that Evero out-schemed Waldron to the same degree in the second half.

Great post and solid takes. While I'm hoping for more of this and less "sky is falling" activity like in the other threads, I'm expecting some troll infestation this week while this team gets it's ducks in a row.

That's not true at all. They had a fumble that killed a drive. They failed to convert 4th and inches near the goal line (and didn't even challenge a questionable spot). A nice run that would have set them up to possibly punch in another TD was wiped out by holding, forcing another FG.

They left plenty of points on the field.

Denver only forced two punts vs a bad offense. Allowed a bad QB to complete 13 straight. The pass rush got home a few times to disrupt those two drives, but when it didn't, they moved the ball fairly easily.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the offense, but the defense could have real problems, especially in this division.

Some good, some bad. Too early to tell.

Lets get them settled in for a few games and get Josey back. That's when we'll know what we've got.
Randy Gregory flashed a few things, but looks like a guy just recovered from surgery. That should get better if he stays healthy. Singleton is a good tackler, but a little slow in space - that showed. Safeties didn't do much to influence the game.

In the end, it was our LBs getting burned by the Seattle TEs for scores that killed us. They'll need to fix that schematically.

So true. The middle of the field is the most important part.

It’s been said before but yes denver needs a leader at ILB

Someone with energy and can set the tone. Justin Simmons and Bradley Chubb is not it (leadership wise)

It was more about Denver's offense keeping the defense off the field in the second half. Seattle only had three drives. On one of them, they were moving well until a fumble.

What impressed you outside of the edge rushers getting home a couple times? Against rookie tackles, too.

They were only moving the ball on that drive because of questionable penalties on denver (weak roughing the passer call). Also that fumble was an excellent job by Gregory stripping the ball. Not some flukey shit

what impressed me was the Seahawks had a chance to put the game away and Denver’s defense didn’t allow them to do it. They stepped up. Chubb getting two sacks in the clutch is huge
