Appears to be the going rate for a top 5 qb in the current NFL. Waiting to see this deal confirmed by other sources.

so 23% of our cap is going to Wilson’s new deal. Hopefully the salary cap continues to increase because that’s a lot.

In comparison Peyton manning was about 16% of our cap when we signed him. But 2022 is a whole different league. It’s the era of the super contracts

        good for russ,
glad it’s out of the way. I trust what Paton is building. Now it’s Time to win some games

Extension from his current two years remaining. If so, that helps out with the cap next season before his AYCV goes up. Not too shabby.

Not too shabby at all. Glad they locked him up under a "reasonable" deal for a franchise QB.

So much for the talk of busting the market at 60 per year, this is a fair deal.

Yes, that is what I thought. Relative to what Watson demanded, this looks more like a “home town discount”.

Yep, after Herbert, Burrow and Lamar get new deals this will seem like a bargain.

This was a long way from $300 mil. Russel has proven he’s flexible about the money, and the Broncos have proven they’ll pay their best players fairly.

300 would have been pretty ridiculous for someone who is coming off an injury/mediocre season, has started to show declining athleticism and has won one playoff game in 5 years.

At least this is somewhat reasonable.

His agent will make about $7.5 mil over the course of the deal. Not bad.

Some act shocked, which is weird, we all knew this was coming after the trade. This deal is better than I expected to be. Excited to watch him finally play in a week and a half!

I’ll wIt until the cap experts go over it but initially the upshot here is Wilson’s cap hit in 2023 is quite reasonable before the extension kicks in. If nothing else, this gives Paton room to maneuver and as long as Wilson plays at a high level, appears to be right in line with what a top qb should make.

I’ll assume Wilson is still a really really good Qb and will be for a while. I’d be very pleased with this today if I were a Denver fan. The only way it’s bad is if Russ just drops off a cliff. That is highly unlikely.

also, good on Denver to get this signed before Lamar, Herbert and Burrow.

I have nothing negative to say about it.

$57M this year includes $50M signing bonus.

                                        2024 $20M option plus $8M salary

                                        2024 $39M salary

                                        that’s $124M over the next 3 years

that leaves $40 M guaranteed in year 4-7 with an annual salary of $30M a year.

i assume by that time reworks can and will be done. happens all the time

the signing bonus is spread over 7 years at $7 M per on the cap.

a bargain if he performs up to his standards.

And imagine what Mahomes would do if he had the top defense in the league (and one of the greatest ever) for his first 5 years or whatever. A lot of guys would win a SB and post a solid record in that situation.

I like the "1 playoff win in 5 years" argument to discredit the QB in a team sport because it reminds me of Matt Stafford having no playoff wins [0-3] in his career before going 4-0 in the 2021-2022 playoffs and winning the SB with a new team. If you think that's on Russell Wilson, let's see where Geno Smith takes this Seahawks roster.

And I remember when Mahomes' $45M/year deal was floated around here as the biggest bargain in sports while Denver was reportedly on the verge of having to pay $50M+ for Wilson fully guaranteed. $296M total for 7 seasons = $42.2M.

The age angle is played out in todays era.

people said Stafford was in decline at 33. All he did was go out and win a SB after that. The average age of SB winners the last decade? Wilson hasn’t had major injuries throughout his career. He doesn’t have as much wear. Any legit football fan saw last year the hand hindered his play. He shouldn’t have been on the field but Seattle was desperate. Before the injury he was beasting. Injury finally healed last couple games. Where else in his career has he been beat up?
