I will gladly eat crow if I'm wrong, but from the get-go (once he was acquired) I didn't envision the Broncos throwing the bank at him until they see how he performs this season.

2 1sts and 2 nds is a lot to give up if they wait to see how he performs. If it’s not good I still can’t see them moving on..too much invested. I think they have the long term plan approach and we’re waiting until new ownership is settled in.

QBs make roughly 20 percent of a team's cap on average.

.....This has the makings of a complete Cleveland Browns style dumpster fire.

- Desparate team finally obtains highly regarded, but aging QB, by trading a ton of captial
- QB is percieved to be very good
- QB stats are mixed bag of showing some very good and some evidence he's slipping
- QB is entering his mid 30's and part of his game was running for yardage, not just escaping.
- QB is rumored to be "fake" and cultivates an image that doesn't always mesh with who he is.
- QB inevitably leverages his percieved ability AND carefully cultivated image to max his contract
- QB win PR battle and team, having to choose between popular but not so great QB, or pissing off fans and the unknown of a drafted or FA QB...caves and signs QB to crushing contract.
- QB doesn't win enough to justify huge contract
- Locker room starts to divide because QB with big salary, hot famous wife, and fake smile, don't go over good with some.
- Team is in doldrums because QB isn't that great, costs too much and half his team resents him.
