  • Roquan Smith Requests a trade from the Bears

All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith said the Bears have "refused to negotiate in good faith" and that the team has left him "no choice" but to request to be traded.

Arguably, his best year was his rookie season playing under Vic Fangio. He is likely better in a Vic Fangio styled defense than how the Bears have used him.

But, he wants a huge payday now, even though his production hasn't really earned it. And the Bears will likely want a 1st round selection for him, which the Broncos don't have.

Still, will be interesting to see how this plays out.

As far as "not earning it" goes, he has been 2nd team All Pro the last two seasons. He is an elite player.

Not sure the Broncos want to give away more draft picks or take on a huge new contract before they get Wilson's deal done.

Yeah, not gonna happen. Unless maybe Robson Walton is a Roquan Smith fan!

I would give them Josey and 6th for him.

        er no!!!

We have potentially Wilson 50m, Surtain 25m, Chubb 20m and Jeudy 25m on deck the next 2 or 3 years. Chubb and Jeudy still have blue chip potential. Wilson and Surtain are going to get paid. We dont have the cap to pay a ILB 15m plus a year.

Do the Rams thing and fully utilize the signing bonus. We got the $ now to make that happen.

He’s a top 5 linebacker in football but that’s become such a tough position to pay guys.

Smith would be an incredible addition, but the Broncos don't have the pick resources (unless they tapped into '24 capital) to acquire him. Can't really think of a deal involving players they would be in favor of either.

Paton’s said repeatedly that his focus is to recoup and add as much draft capital as possible.

They will def try to trade some of the bubble guys. Malik Reed is an obvious candidate

I would trade Jeudy and Chubb for him. Save a cool 30 mil.

NFL.com has Denver as 1 of 4 landing spots for Smith. I think Jonas Griffith may take that away but I'd have no problem with Smith taking over for Jewel.

Trade Reed and a conditional 7th.

That could work but I don’t see bears taking on players going to 2nd contracts soon. They’ll want draft picks.

I'm thinking the same, just found it interesting that they would be on that list. With the Broncos money wows behind them, I wonder if they get mentioned every time a player whines about money.

Denver will have some bills coming due and need all the picks they can get.

Paton is trying to add picks in 2023 draft, so I don’t know how he would be able pull this off unless the Bears accepted 2024 picks which is unlikely.

Malik Reed and scrubs? Yeah, that’s not going to get it done.

I’m talking about at best a Trinity Benson kind of haul for these guys, giving yourself enough dart throws to flexibly maneuver around the last few rounds. Any player trades of significance I wouldn’t expect until after the season.
