  • RIP James Caan

Most people think of the God Father. I think of Misery . Great actor that will surly be missed.

Sad news. I think of both movies, but Misery was terrific.

    RIP.

The Hobble scene will haunt my memories for ever. I guess we should probably include ELF in there as well.

Thief is one of the most underrated movies ever. Great career and he was a really funny tweeter.

He was also excellent in Thief, which is an underrated but great film. Maybe Caan's best performance, according to critics.

It’s probably my 4th on my list of football movies. Been a minute since I watched it.

                          .
                          .

People forget, but Caan was a very good athlete. Before he got into acting, he had a cup of coffee with the Bears.

Best, most dramatic death scene in movie history, too.

The first movie I ever saw him in was Rollerball from 1975. Loved it. I was a fan ever since. I think I was like 8 or 9 when I saw it in Germany.

No mention of Rollerball until the 21st post in this thread? Blasphemy!

Turner Classic Movies had James Caan day earlier in the year, IIRC. Anyway, I recorded two of his movies that I liked, Rollerball & Cinderella Liberty. I hadn’t seen either movie in over 30 yrs, so out of complete coincidence, I watched both just a couple of weeks ago, and I still liked them.

I posted this list on my FB page, and I’ll repeat it here. This excludes The Godfather because it is an obvious choice, and is one of the greatest movies ever made.

Here is a short list of favorites of mine in addition to The Godfather, in chronological order:

El Dorado- with John Wayne; Brian’s Song; Cinderella Liberty; Rollerball; Thief- really underrated!; Misery- with Kathy Bates; The Program; Eraser; Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs; and another underrated movie in The Good Nieghbor. Rent one soon!

BTW, I am about the 3rd or 4th person on this thread to mention that the Thief is underrated, so if you haven’t seen it, rent it!
